Don’t knock the game until you have actually been.  I attended a few years ago and it is the best live game experience I have ever had.  Everything about it was unique and special.  Give it a go if you can.  You won’t regret it.

Sounds good. You wanna lend me the $2000 for airfares?

Absolutely!  Although the interest will kill you!  I got very lucky with cheap flights in 2019.  I don't think cheap flights, or cheap anything, exist these days.

So keen to finally get to this game that I bought my air ticket in January - cost $400 one way - happy happy happy about that.

Melbourne’s clash against GWS Giants in Alice Springs in a fortnight will go ahead after the AFL brokered a peace deal with local council over community footy.

There were fears the clash would have to be moved to another venue after the local council banned community footy involving teams from regional areas from playing in Alice Springs on Sundays.

But AFL game development boss Rob Auld fixed the issue with a revamped community fixture, helping address some of the social problems concerning the council around transport and venues.

It was a pleasing result for the league as it means the Demons will host the Giants as planned in the Red Centre on Sunday, July 2.

Melbourne has won four of its past five games at Traeger Park.

It's on the bucket list trust me, more so than Gather Round or any other interstate trip.

RG

the day is predicted to be dry on Sunday but a fair bit of rain on the 3 preceding days. What's the drainage like

Heading up to Alice tomorrow, we had booked 2 nights at Ross River Resort but a phone call from them yesterday advised against coming due to the rapid rise of the Ross River quote "you may get in but you may not get out". So 5 nights in Alice pre game. Also we booked tickets on the Hill from the club for $249 a throw, and was disappointed to see that the AFL are advertising the same tickets for $180. not sure if the club is adding the extra $70 as a fund raiser.  But have asked the club to explain the difference.

We paid $30 for general admission tickets on the advice of an Alice Springs friend and footy fan. The $249 option looked like an overpriced rip off. I sincerely hope you get your money's worth.

not sure what drainage of oval is like, three days of consecutive rain in the footy season is extremely rare, so don’t expect it to be a problem (am expecting less rain to hit town than forecast), but …

I'm leaving tomorrow morning Jim and aiming to arrive Saturday arvo.

I'm more concerned about a decent Shiraz than steak sangos so I'll be packing a couple of decent quaffers .

A number of years ago I flew to Adelaide ($56) then drove a rental to Alice ($300 total fuel inc) for the match (ticket x2  $50).  Overnight in Port Augusta ($130) with 2 nights in Alice (for $190 total).  Flew back to Melbourne red eye (~$300).  Money well spent and a great experience (even through West Coast pipped us).

Alice Springs weather update: rain until around 12 noon on Sunday, max temp 9 deg FFS! Forecast for Melbourne is max 14 deg. WTF is going on? My Alice Springs friend says there has not been weather like this in the Alice at this time of year in 35 years!

Club stated the AFL deal is a different event. And noted that the drink package included wines from our sponser Penfolds ( a couple of granges might ease the tension) anyhow get bitten once and you learn

Good luck doing that again for that price.

That is some spooky 💩.

Its a great place to watch the footy. Particularly if you're on the grandstand side and watching the footy with the sun setting on the West Macs in the background. Admittedly the times I've gone its been sunny!

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
