Damn just got back from burning my pilaf and scoffing good wine with friends.  Sydney really [censored] the bed.  Although when you look at the injury list it is in perspective... I just don't like Geelong and this result remains unsatisfactory

Brisbane are flying at the moment, particularly from an offensive point of view as they’ve beaten a range of sides - from premier contenders to mediocre and poor sides.

However, can anyone honestly seeing them beating a Collingwood or Geelong in a prelim or grand final at the MCG? I certainly can’t.

On another matter, we’re probably going to have to win by about 8 goals if we’re to catch Geelong on percentage. Their apparent demise after round 3  was greatly exaggerated.

Well Jeelong's 2 out of the 3 wins consisted of West Coast and Hawthorn, so you'd have to wait and see how they go against us and the likes of St Kilda, Brisbane, etc.

Two things: On reflection, remember how around three weeks ago, Geelong had fallen off a cliff.

Chris is a very very good coach. You don't stick around a club as long as he has as if it's an autocracy, or if you're a bit ordinary at what you do.

Three weeks ago, Geelong were going to 'not' make the finals, now they look like premiership contenders. There is enough evidence that you are still a premiership contender if you lose to teams on paper that you 'shouldn't' (in this case GC Suns).... this evidence is transferable to Melbourne and it's loss to Essendon, and subsequent loses throughout the year.

Brisbane are still easy to score against, that’s the area of their game that hasn’t changed.

3 points in a half of football. Yes we’re aware who was missing for Sydney but we’re also aware of who was playing 

Heeney, Papley, Goulden, Mills, Warner, Parker. Sydney won the centre clearances 16 to 10. Geelong 91 marks to Swans 76 which can be deceiving but ultimately the big stat from the night was 22 marks inside fwd 50 to 5.

Anyway a lot still to play out this year.

This was their first game at home and the games you suggested are all there as well so it's good money they will win them.

Take away the Full back, centre half back, third tall defender, ruckman, centre half forward, tall forward/second ruck and full forward out of any team and they’ll capitulate. Given their injury list, tonight’s belting is completely expected and until they get some talls back the Swans are in for a world of pain.

I did not expect the manner of their performance. it was the same that they dished up in the grand final (when they had no injuries). they were not injury depleted around the ball but still got smashed. 

Injury a factor for sure but something not right at the Swans. They have always been competitive but this year their drop off in performance when not playing well is massive. The toughness and hardness they've been renowned for over the years is gone.

Effort without talent at the highest level will still result in a slaughter like we saw last night.  I've predicted the Swans to fall out of the eight this year based on history (teams that get flogged in GFs rarely come up the following year) and some list deficiencies that are masked to a certain extent playing on their postage stamp home ground.  

I think the whole 'Bloods' culture like the 'Shinboner' spirit is a little overblown- particularly by the media who love the romanticism of it - it plays well when you have a good list, but it means diddly squat if your game plan doesn't stack up and you are missing key players.

It goes as far as each team at a pinch has a max of 2 'elite' midfielders, typically speaking on their list. If one or both go down injured - then the consensus is that teams don't 'bat deep' enough. No team bats THAT deep..ever...

The greatest predictor of premiership contention is elite talent and having your top end talent on the park without minor injuries or discomfort. There is further nuance, of choosing to play whilst slightly injured, how that is played (or not discussed) in the media.

Culture isn't ethereal - culture is about a set of personal (not organisational) standards that are operationalised behaviourally contextually, repeated time and time again... not just when it's easy, and when it's difficult.

God i hate Geelong.

First thing i saw this morning was AFL match centre pic of Hawkins grotesque head celebrating another goal at the taxpayer funded Cattery.

I suddenly felt violently ill almost sprayed vomit all over the bedroom wall.  I cant stand those entitled farm boys. Selwood unfurling the flag with all family present would of been another vomitous sight.

Darcy would have to be a given to return to the cattery farm soon.

Swans will definitely lobby the AFL  not to play at the cattery for a while same as the Eagles.

MFC will always play down at KARAK.

My Geelong supporting uncle was saying a couple of weeks back that they were missing too many defenders and you can only cover so many injuries, and particularly if they're elite players like Stewart. 

At the time we had a conversation about the last three premiers and that they were the teams with the least amount of injuries at the right time, and it's that little bit of luck that goes a long way to winning a flag.

Richmond had a blessed run, as did we in 2021, and Geelong for most of last year. 

When the Bulldogs won it in 2016, they are the outlier, given their horrid injury run that year, but it seems highly likely that whoever gets the best run with injuries this year will win it.

Collingwood are the potential outlier there, given their system is still strong without a ruckman. But there is a breaking point, and if we have Max and Grundy running around against no one on KB, our mids are going to be able to get the upper hand.

Brisbane has one genuine away win so far, and that was yesterday’s far from convincing win over GWS, a likely bottom 6 if not bottom 4 side. 

Their home wins vs us and Collingwood were excellent but they have dominated at home for 4 years without being good enough to do real finals damage. I’m not at all convinced enough has changed there. 

Geelong are the only good side to have played both Hawthorn and West Coast plus they got Sydney at the best possible time. Their percentage is hardly reflective of their season so far.
