it was one of many in that time.  I still have in my deepest darkest memories being teased by my grandfather in the aftermath of the 87 prelim.  I was staying at my grandparents' house in Camberwell while my parents were in Queensland, and as soon as the game ended, I did the whole dramatic thing of running off to my mother's childhood bedroom, closing the door and throwing myself violently on the bed in full wail mode.  I could hear Pa laughing at me and Grandma telling him off like he was a school bully.  I was 16, it's the first time I remember crying over a football game.  Growing up a Melbourne supporter in the 80s with Hawthorn supporting relatives is not all it's cracked up to be :)

Not sure it was cracked up to be anything....🤣

After 35 years. That shows you don't really hold too much of a grudge.

I went with a Fitzroy-supporting mate.  He was driving.  We had to stay until the end.

Before my time, but the most interesting fact about that loss was that we actually won the next week. Imagine losing by 32 goals and then winning the next week.

Haha yeah, I always feel like an embarrassing loss starts you in the negative handicap the next week 😛

I agree with you. However, just to clarify, is the Lewis incident with Viney directly related to vilification in that specific match?

Yes I'm not sure and should clarify, I'm not insinuating it was.

I’m an Irish Catholic by birth and I hate West Coast more than I hate Glasgow Rangers.

Supporters are absolute 1 eyed filth, who have been used to an armchair media ride and matters getting swept under the carpet since their inception.

Any negative media is just thought to be the Victorian media making up stories

Disagree, firstly WC is interstate, secondly all the above mentioned that's wrong with them and lastly it's WC. I don't care what player has been traded to them, they are and always will be worse then Essendon.

Au contraire Monsieur KikA!

Essendon are the lowest of low. WCE are merely scum.

Or even before that, Chris Lewis biting Todd Viney. And them still defending it.  I have a long memory.  In so many ways it was far worse than their defending Andrew Gaff's punching Andrew Brayshaw.  It's why I don't understand why some Demonlanders hate Freo more than West Coast - WCE supporters are the Collingwood of the west.  I think it's why it hurt when Hunt went to WCE.

One of my "prouder" moments came off the back of that dog Lewis biting Todd Viney.

On the return outing at Waverley I was sitting with the cheer squad and was just giving it to Lewis ALL day.
I was loud & obnoxious (& I think I was even getting on the nerves of my fellow cheer squad members) UNTIL Lewis finally 'bit' back (pun intended) and shouted at me to "shut the f&*$ up".
It's still the only time I have gotten a verbal reaction from a player, but the crowd erupted, I was elevated from annoying to legend, and the whole cheer squad gave it to him for the rest of the day.
Ah, good times  🤣

Back to the thread, What ARE they saying at Legless Park???

Not one of my prouder moments from the early 90s in the cheer squad was (not involving West Coast) we playing Geelong at the MCG, and every time Ablett went near us we'd sing the 131166 Pizza Hut Delivery ad to him.  He must have found that really annoying.

Here is a fun fact.  Todd call his next dog Lewis!

Here are some things these delightful people said on reddit a couple of days ago:

  • Melbourne were dog[censored] in 2019 after we demolished them in the 2018 prelim

  • God what a [censored] day that was, was almost as good as winning the grand final. I just remember all the media saying Melbourne were the favourites, they were so desperate for it to be melbournes year and for us, the team predicted to not even make finals, to absolutely blow them out of the water was just chefs kiss

  • It was also made more delicious by them wanting to be able to beam in video of Melbourne supporters to negate our home crowd advantage. In retrospect I kind of wish they went ahead with it

Geez I've felt a bit sorry for them after the weekend and now, if I didn't suffer from a horrible bout of MFCSS, I'd be lacing up my dancing shoes and heading to the cemetery to dance on some graves.

Hi Pennant. If we win at Parkheid on Sunday can we go back to the top of your hate list?

Jokes aside, where do you place Freo? Are they perhaps the Partick Thistle of WA?

It's Saturday this time? That's unusual. The clocks having changed last week helps too. Thanks layzie!

What's that make Collingwood!?

I'm sure at Lathlain Park they have the more important task of complaining about their gameday thread and how negative everyone is in it.

Ha ha nothing will replace them

I played some reserve matches for the Jags in the early 90s, I don’t mind Freo fans, there’s a few feral ones but overall they’re made up of South and East Freo diehards who have some footy knowledge.

They have been for the most part belted by the big brother and the media for the most part so I have no issue with them really

You played for the Jags! Was the legendary John Lambie managing them at the time? Or Chic Charnley playing for them?

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
