Apparently it was mentioned on Fox Footy on TV earlier this evening that Clayton Oliver could well be the early favourite for the 2023 Brownlow Medal.

 

Any thoughts on this?

 

Obviously Premiership Medallions are far more valuable, but it would be a wonderful individual achievement if our Clarrie could win this year's Brownlow Medal for 2023.

Anyway, if he continues to have outstanding performances like he did in his 150th game with 25+ possessions and kicks 2 or 3 goals again he will definitely keep gaining votes from the umpires.

 

Especially as there are now 4 field umpires. So I am now assuming the votes are 4, 3, 2, 1 rather than the previous 3, 2, 1? However, I am unsure how the voting system will work this year in games compared to previous years.

I guess we shall wait and see?

 

Either way, it would be fantastic to have a new Brownlow Medallist at the Melbourne Football Club. It has been a long time since Shane Woewodin won a Brownlow Medal back in 2000.

Fingers crossed it could be our Clarrie in 2023! 🤞

You'd think he is a lock in the top 4 for years to come.

However this year specifically there seems to be a push from the media to give the medal to N. Daicos.

I don't think Daicos can sustain his current performance once opposition start putting some work on him. He's not ready for the physical challenge of hard tags and contested footy.

I wouldn't think so.  The umpires confer at the end of the game to decide the 3, 2, 1.

It's been that way with two and three umpires and I doubt it would change with an extra umpire.

Think Cripps would be leading atm.

Oliver has a better chance with Max not playing to take votes from him.  A few BOG's over the next month will go a long way to getting him home.

who can guess what the umps will do. they usually don’t pick pure inside mids. they err towards mids who kicks goals or take marks - ablett Fyfe, danger

so Clarry kicking a few goals like yesterday will help. he is the sole favourite on SB

He hasn't been the best player in the comp in the first three rounds.  Who knows what the next 19 games might hold.  Lever would be leading our B&F right now.

He is a great 2nd year player, possibly the best u21 player the competition has ever seen, but there is still daylight between him and the top 20 players in the competition. 

If we didn’t have Petracca or Gawn he would have won a quinella by now and going for the trifecta. Being absolute king of your own dung heap like Cripps, Wines and Neale helps.

Oliver wasn’t in the best 3 for me in round 1 and was busy but diabolical in round 2.

I thought he was best on yesterday but Petracca was the most prolific so there’s every chance he gets the 3 votes.

It’s very hard to win the Brownlow when you aren’t the clear number 1 player on a team. Tracc, a healthy Gawn and hopefully Pickett and others will chip away at his votes. But if he can win the coaches award again that will be just fine for me.

Pure shot in the dark but I'd have LDU on 6 votes, Nick Daicos on 5 and i'd have Clarry on 4 so far.

I've only watched one st kilda game so far this year so not sure if someone there would have polled well across the first 3 rounds. 

I'm just glad he plays for our mob.

I remember messaging him on Instagram during 2020 and pleading him not to leave haha.

Daicos would be in front. He’s probably on 7 or 8. De Goey will take votes off him though.

Cripps’ early form would also mean he’d be right up there. No other mids taking votes off him at the moment.

I hope you guys haven’t jinxed his chances for the medal!

no word so far that Clarrie is in trouble for that tackle - phew.
