Way too hot for a scarf tonight surely!

It's a lovely balmy but cool 22 right now as we walk through Richmond to the G!

Melksham sub

JVR not kitted up, but looked like he was limping off the ground

Did he play VFL today?

On my way in, missed these butterflies.

CARNA****INDEEEEEES!!!!

Looks windy out there flags whipping around…hopefully doesn’t help their giant forward line

If we lose tonight, then One of the two premiership favourites will be 0-2 by the end of the next week. To make matters worse both Bris and Melb face other top 4 prospects in round 3 in the Dogs and Swans respectively.

With almost 20min to go - such a disappointing crowd -  looks tiny -  MCC members you can sit where you like

I  decided to drive to the G and got a parking spot. Unfortunately after entering the ground I discovered that the entire first level in the northern stand is now reserved seating. I have been sitting in that area since 1960. There is nothing as constant as change. I got to chose between behind the goals or southern stand wing, wing won! Too many members!!!!!!.

Not sure where you are... ground level has been claimed for almost an hour

Very windy. Heat has died down. Now it’s just humid.

The average crowd since 1990 is 31,000 for a Dogs V Dees game at the MCG.

I wouldn’t be expecting more than 40k tonight.

The bars were packed in the Olympic stand. Ppl finding their way to their seats now. Sparse in AFL members and Ponsford top decks though.

It’ll double in the next 20 as people sit in bars and are either in the line trying to get in.

Alright we're in. Sticky floor (Thanks a lot Richmond or other previous team fans)

Admittedly a little envious of DL fraternity in situ at the ‘G. But just arrived at Terminal 21 after the road trip from the periphery. In good time to view the game. Wishing all fellow Demonlanders a great evening. Will  hopefully be celebrating a hard fought victory with the local brew. Go Dees!

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

  • POSTGAME: St. Kilda

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
