1.5M a year between 'em. Amazing. Throw in McGovern and you have the price of a bedsitter in the back streets of Bondi Beach.

Or an over the top Bathing Box on a Port Phillip Bay beach with no aircon, no power and hotter than the Sahara in Summer

Hey but if Dusty gets back to his best they might win the whole entire premiership according to some!

Wait, he missed anyway but the umpire didn’t bring back dusty in line with the mark???? So players can choose their own line of goal now?

Dusty is allowed to. Nobody else though.

The best aspect about this result is not only that both teams miss out on two valuable premiership points but also that it instills great doubt in Carlton players and fans that they'll be any  good in pressure moments in future.

Throw in Zac Williams as well.

Cripps threw the ball 3 times for no whistle. Dropped it at least another 3 times, for no whistle.

Don’t let anyone ever tell you that the umpires don’t have favourites.

That said, he is a great player.

I'm not quite as negative on the overall game as some here are. If I were from either of these supporters bases, apart from having less teeth and a larger belly, I would be:

  • Richmond supporter - very worried that they're staring at an abyss over the next few years.
  • Carlton supporter - encouraged by the performance of their youngsters: De Koning, Cowan, Hollands.

Nothing about Peter personally, everything against Essendon as a club.

Enter, the Weid

What deciduous schadenfreude if both Tigers and Blues were to miss the finals by half a game.  🤗🤗🤗

True but at least thats something you can use in September.

I get he is at StKilda working & probably a bit salty how he left Carlton but surely he could have swallowed his pride & had a photo with his son for his 100th. The family photo looks a tad awkward without SOS there.

Surely he's a father first, especially with the family history with Carlton

I heard SOS was watching a VFL practice game as part of his role at St Kilda and didn't get to the G until about when the game started.

I thought Carlton lacked structure in its gameplan last night with Richmond continuing its helter skelter gameplan.

Geelong and Collingwood gameplans are/were very different. I wonder which one will succeed this evening

Doesn't make sense though Binman. Rd 1, all the hard yards in pre season, shouldn't they be in ripping nick?

Sure.

But the way that game was played, with the ball in constant motion and players having to run back and forward all game is incredibly taxing.

As you suggest, neither team will be in as good a nick at any future point in the season as they are right now.  Which is a key reason why, based on how both failed to run out the game, i don't think either team will make the 8 .

The game plan most teams will employ this season requires all 22 players to be at, or close to peak fitness. That only happens if almost all players have uninterrupted, unhindered January and February preseasons and miss very few (ideally none) sessions are missed.

And of course, even if that happens some teams, like us, will have superior athletes and potentially superior training programs. Maybe some teams do more endurance work or put in more ks. Such teams will have a fitness advantage.

I don't know how the tiger's preseason went - did many players miss sessions or couldn't get the clicks in? They looked to run out of puff late in quarter against us and were spent at the end of last nights game. Doesn't augur well.

There was an article Andy put up in late Jan tracking how each club was traveling injury wise and it noted Carlton had multiple players struggle with injury (in addition to Walsh and Wiliams who were rehabbing) and i presume missed sessions.

Maybe that's why they looked to slow the game down as much as possible and make it a kick mark game (ie they know they have not achieved optimal fitness)?

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
