Bring back Bucks as head Coach to settle things down?

Was the reply "Win a Flag at OUR home ground" ?

Does anyone have an update on list spots?

By my calcs so far it is probable that:

Out - D Smith, M Hibberd, B Grundy, J Jordon, L Dunstan & J Harmes

In - S McAdam, T Fullarton

Leaves 4 spots with the potential to upgrade Daniel Turner from the rookie list?

Harmes is still a 50/50 to stay/go

Ben Brown - can’t see him playing next year unless he gets elephant painkilling injections each quarter

Spoke to a Brisbane mate who thinks he is not that bad. Was their best ruck option behind Big O.

@Lucifers Hero has a pinned contract thread on one of the boards that has a good summary.

I believe D Turner has a contract that gaurentees promotion to the senior list for next season. The other question mark is if Melksham stays on the senior list or moved to the Rookie list. Either way he can be placed on the inactive list and free up another list spot I believe.

Trades dont start until Monday so that could be why

Free agency movements started today though. There is a link to a trade hub on one of the blogs that shows the player movement

Sydney starting to smell like Geelong.

How on earth have they got the money to pay all these guys?

Lots of bottom of the harbour schemes  😉

Think we really need to work on retiring BBB, unless his knee is magically healed and Tom Mac who at best will be at Casey all year, in a real sour end to his AFL career.

It would be more respectful to retire them gracefully and go out as senior players with an agreement on contract payout.

Would this give us any cap relief?

Yep been saying this for a whiles.

Tommy can at least get on a park...just a bit slower these days. If he's happy to mentor some kids...great...as he does understand footy quite well.

Benny Benny Benny...  lets get ya fixed up and into the coaching path as i hear thats an interest...  when you're shot...you're shot...look after yaself 😉

If you paid them out 50% of their contracts as an example it would probably be a $.5m saving or $500k.

Imo it is more about 2 extra list spots.

We will hopefully have some good picks  and would want to use them. Melk will probably go on Rookie list or inactive long term injury list too.

I think we will have enough list spots. And why would TMac or Brown not want the $500k?

Darcy Wilson is a chance to go in our range.

Our girls are in yr 12 with him

Son of a gun footballer and mum was champion netballer

Good skills and cross country runner.

Endurance ++ could be used in the high half forward role?

Mid sized midfielder from memory

Any intel Dazzle?

Well there are many reasons why players retire with time left on their contracts.

They may be happy to receive some money and walk away.

They may be happy to end their careers as senior players not has beens. Pride.

They may be in pain with injury.

They may be frustrated at not being able to perform at their best.

They may wish to earn extra money in a lesser competition, with less commitment required.

They may wish to transition to coaching.

They may have business reasons or family reasons.

Etc.

I don't think we will have enough list spots unless one or both retire.

We have Fullarton, McAdam and K. Brown coming, Turner being uplifted, plus our draft picks, surely at least 3 and any other player we trade for.

I think we definitely need more list spots.

PS: BBB, Tom Mac, Schache, Verall and Jefferson makes for a very crowded  Casey forward line, with maybe Fullarton and Faris-White as well..

The real benefit of them retiring would be any cap relief.

I believe the number of players expected to be drafted this year is only around 50-55 and I thought there was some flexibility in the number of players on the Senior List or Rookie List.

We can push our picks into 2024 or consolidate them to go up the draft board with the Suns or Dogs.

Kynan Brown may be one of our draftees or rookies if good enough.

Harmes could leave.

I expect that Melksham will go to the Rookie List.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
