Anymore Oscar Allen speculation @adonski or has talks around that disappeared.

I dont believe it would happen for a second but fun to hear us being linked with an exciting key position player.

is 800K per year for Ben Mackay a joke?

I'll check the gutters and get back to you

Do we offer Ben McKay $550 and see if he is interested? He can’t be on more than $400 at North.

at $800k he would have zero incentive to perform

how about a 100% incentive based contract

and yeah, 800k was real funny

I think all players have an incentive to perform…..the desire to be the best player you can and help the team win flags. Surely that’s incentive enough?

Excuse me.. we should never release ANB or Salem. They are needed senior players who have played well this year. There are lots of knockers around of ANB but he is the heart and soul of our Club as is Salem.

ANB Heart & Soul might be a bit of a stretch. No other current player has done my head in more regularly than him for multiple reasons but I have to say his game on the weekend was a work of art. For me arguably his best game. He got to multiple contests and was effective in them, once he got the ball he didn't do his normal first options of either falling over or taking too long and getting caught. He made quick decisions, many of them were excellent attacks into the corridor and most importantly mostly didn't turn it over. I hate to sound my age and the father I am but I was proud of him for that performance. Well done ANB.

disagree. an overpriced contract with a guaranteed long contract term is a potential disincentive especially for a player who has a poor consistency record (even if he has potential)

More appropriate. Essendon?

Nth will get pick 3 as compensation for McKay

So you've heard this? Or guessing...?

Couldn't find a thread on him, so thought I'd put it in here.

I hope we're into Ben McKay, provided he's willing to come across a bit cheaper.

He'd be an upgrade on Tomlinson, serve as May's ultimate replacement, allow May to play higher up the ground and enable Petty to go forward permanently in 2024.

We might try and back Adams and Turner, but I don't think either of them can play on that gorilla type and this is what free agency is for. To enable the top clubs to poach good players from struggling clubs. 😉

It could be our Frawley to Hawthorn move.

The thought of May further up the ground does not fill me with confidence.

I think he’s better suited close to goal

If Maysie is further up the ground, he will be closer to goal. Doesn't kick goals now cos he's too far out. Plus he can use his strength to flatten a few blokes making a clear pathway for the Milkshake to shimmer and shine in ways he hasn't done since winter 2022.

It’s the dream for a lot of young kids but if you think more than 10% of AFL players view this as anything other than a job, you are kidding yourself. Probably even less.

It's not my job to think, I just take notes and organise old mate's diary.

Just guessing.  The AFL needs them to be more competitive and rather than giving them a priority pick this is an easier option. They did the same with us and Frawley.

I think so.

How many heart and soul players does a team have? I dont class Salem as one of them and his 2023 has been poor after a middling injury impacted 2022. We have others for the role on lesser $$$. I would not say he cant be traded at the right price.

Frawley was an All Australian defender. Mackay is an always injured average performer.

Same here. Jaded is a slave driver.

I mean, another DDOS attack on Geelong regional infrastructure??

They barely have computer systems to hack… #worklyf

Salem was not flash on the weekend but he’s been very good since his return.

Salem>ANB every day of the week

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.
