Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I wonder how much we will be able to gauge from today’s hit out?  I’ll  be mostly looking for some hints and insights into tactical / game plan changes that we might take into the ‘23 season, and some clues as to the possible ‘pecking order’ where there seems to be strong competition for spots in our best 23.

These are critical factors for us to perfect for the finals, before steamrolling the Catty Puts. So what if we are getting ahead of ourselves?

Interested to know where James Jordon will play if playing in same team as Langdon and Hunter.

Is Bowey the Salem replacement?

What do they have in mind for Rivers and Brayshaw?

Jordon could play half back, effectively replacing Salem.

JJ has the discipline and defensive nous. And in almost all his games he essentially played a half back role.

He's a terrific footballer. Super high footy iq and does whatever job the coaches ask him to do..You can see why the coaches love him.

His kicking, lack of burst speed and just ok ability in aerial contests would all be found out down back.

Pretty much all the downside of Gus at half back without the elite overhead marking and passable left foot to bail him out.

There’s a big difference between folding back to fill space or receive the ball at half back and actually playing half back.

If JJ slips behind Hunter in the pecking order - which we are presuming, we don’t know for sure - then I expect he’ll be outside the best 22 waiting for a wing or on ball opportunity. Langdon and Hunter are both big minutes wingers so any 3rd winger will need to impact forward and that’s not JJ’s go.

Going to Casey and starring on ball isn’t necessarily a bad thing either, he skipped the stage in his development. Having 30 a week at Casey for a while would be good for him. He’ll up his contested possession game and practice more aggressive decision making and ball use.

His endurance is pretty good now, and will only improve, so a bit a bit depends on the level he can get his athleticism at. Playing as a mid at Casey might help him develop his running power and athleticism.

He might be one of those players who take a few pre seasons to get in optimal athletic condition.

This is his fifth season, and he is just shy of 50 games, which by the by is pretty impressive as his first game was at the start of 2021 - meaning he has played almost every game of the last two seasons.

He's coming into his prime phase, that 50 to 120 games zone, and i reckon his combination footy smarts and good decision making is a skill set too few players have.

He'll just get better from here, and I could see him elevating his game to another level. If he does he isn't going out of the best 22.

For the thirsty fan there are a wealth of pubs not far from Linton St to cool off. There's the East Boundary Hotel on the corner of Centre and East Boundary roads and the South Side Six  on South Rd up towards Warragul Rd

I think I am a Lone Ranger on this but I have JJ in front of Hunter. I expect massive improvement from both JJ and Sparrow this year and for me it’s up to Hunter to kick the door down at Casey to replace them.

I fully expect Hunter to be in the side round 1 but I wouldn’t have him in.

Didn't know that still existed. I don't think I've heard the name for 40 years!

totally agree. well summed up. his elite qualities are his tank (but so is Hunter who's a superior kick) and I think needs to be in the middle. He looks a natural inside footballer to me so a good stint as Casey using his '1 wood' might be what the doctor ordered. and who knows he might go up the pecking order.

That’s good to know. I’m about 20 mins away. I was always going to avoid Linton st. Any tips?

All the side streets around Linton St are chockers.

I had to walk about 5 minutes but I imagine it will get worse.

Another option is to park at a station on the Frankston line and catch the train to Moorabbin station.
About a 15 minute walk to Linton street.

Salem not on the list today. Hope his neck/throat problem is fixed before R1.

We need him.

Salem has a thyroid issue that will need to be managed. He had similar issues back in 2015-2016 and it limited his ability to train and played funny buggers with his muscle mass. He only just started jogging again last week and won't be seen early season at this rate. Probably more likely to see him mid year onwards if managed well. We have HBF replacement options in Rivers, Bowey, Brayshaw, Hunter and others.

In the warm up, kick at goals session most of the players out there were the best 23.

Clayton included.

My guess is, like Spencer said, start with our best.

I imagine we’ll start best 22/23 available and progressively rest certain players. Will be skeleton crew by games end.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
