What I'd Like to See from the MFC in Twenty Twenty Three

Recommended Posts

- A top four finish and a Premiership.

- Wins over Geelong, Richmond (Anzac Eve), Sydney, Collingwood (Kings B'day) A MUST!!!

- More rotation of players through the year so there's a healthy competition for senior spots.

- Kozzy contract extension.

- News on our MFC facility finally chosen/ preparation underway.

- Increased revenue for the club from it's investments.

- Sign a big sponsor.

- Oliver to win his Brownlow.

- May to spear tackle Jackson and bust a few ribs without being suspended.

- Oliver and Brown to shave their heads for a much cleaner look. Langdon to grow his back lol.

- A healthy 60,000 supporter membership tally after a disappointing 2022 exit.

A bit more versatility, free wheeling and enjoyment in the way we play.

I love the defensive effort the players give and the joy they have in that but our best footy is fast, creative and brave. It trusts the next guy in the chain calling for the ball is either free or can win a contest.

Do that and if the coaches and footy department make enough of the right calls managing the players we’ll be in with a shot.

Did anyone else notice the team is really happy this year? It seems we have the right balance with things at the moment. The players are always smiling and cracking jokes in photos I see. Morale and training intensity is high, which can only be a good thing. I just feel like we are humming away ready to take the opposition to the sword. We are ready!

Flag, obviously, but the thing that I want to see because I believe it's the best predictor ...

I want us to be number 1 in the comp for forward 50 tackles again. We dominated that stat in 2021 (from memory, ANB and Kozzie were #1 and #2 in the league) and completely dropped away in 2022. Bring that pressure again, turn the ball over higher up, force oppo quick kicks to Lever/Gawn/etc., and we're well on the way to Cup #14.

I’d like to see the players enjoying their football.
2021, the team were clearly enjoying their football and celebrating each others success.  They’re looked fresh, happy and enthused.

2022, they looked like they were ‘all business’ and it seemed to weigh them down come the second half of the year.

I would like to see them hungry and happy.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
