Does packaging 16, 25 or 35 + a F1 get us another top 10 pick in 2023? On sheer points value, this package would easily be equivalent surely, but whether someone in the top 10 would do it, who knows...

I doubt any top 10 pick club would take that deal despite the inherent value.

My suggestion in another thread was that we could aim for a top 5 and a top 10 pick by multiple deals with different clubs.

eg using the picks you mention I could see us using 25, and F1 for a pick in the low teens to mid teens.  Then package that up with pick 16 giving two good first round picks to get a top 10 pick from different club.

Then see where the Freo pick falls to see if we need to go higher and use #35 plus whatever to sweeten the deal.  We will probably get other picks in if we trade out players (even for third round picks) which again can be packaged to clubs who need points and upgrade $35.

Overall, I do think a top 5 and a top 10 pick in this draft is quite achievable - it just depends how we package the picks to get a top 10 pick in the first instance.

Freo really need to recruit a tall guy who can take a mark.

oh wait……

Almost a certainty  he has a Chinese ancestor. Jaw line the giveaway.

Chinese are famous for bells

Freo have nothing. Lions are in cruise mode here and are still way better than them.

If the Lions decides to click into top gear they'll win this by a 100 points

I think this could work IF the Suns finish with something around pick 7/8 and their academy player is thought to go higher. If they can’t trade up it would be a very attractive offer for them.

It’s the natural impact of playing bad teams. Watch us do the same tonight.

Agree that a top 5 and 10 is very achievable depending what we do during the trade period prior. If our F/S pick expected to go mid twenties it would make sense to trade up with our two second round picks.

Yes, lots of permutations.

Like you I would much rather we aim for a top 5 and top 10 pick than use all our chips for pick 1, the original hypothetical in the other thread.

There will definitely be more than one elite midfielder in the top 5 and then aim for the next best whatever with the top 10 pick.

We have a top 5 pick from Freo. Take that to the bank.

I’m death riding them all the way to a bottom 3 finish.
Let’s go!

Dogga will be relieved he doesn't need to tell Peter Bell about the family holiday his mum has booked for September.

Yesss. GWS got up with a goal in the last minute. Top 5 pick is a big chance for us.

Freo are proving to be my main interest in 2023. The fun seems to get better every week.

So.... do we strategically drop games against the bottom 4 to improve our pick?

I'm still bitter at Goodwin for beating the Tigers last week.

If Richmond and Norff win Freo will be 16th but I dont think thats  particularly what were looking for this afternoon or night depending where youre at.

I wholly agree - I mean Goodwin has a pretty good strike rate week to week, sure… but you’re right - he is not looking at the bigger picture, he is not succession planning - he is ultimately about himself… so is he the right guy? 🤨

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
