I came across this in the WCE threads:

Did Fremantle sign the giant West Australian because he aided their flag push, or did their vision of unicorns and a desire to keep him from becoming Nic Naitanui’s successor cloud their pursuit of a maiden premiership?

Interesting article. I think it's a bit early to write Jackson off but my key takeaway was:  "But instead, they have dished up two uninspiring losses to sides who didn’t make finals last season, including the wooden spooners, and took three and half quarters to break an Eagles side with no bench and injured players forced to play on.

It’s nice to win, but it shouldn’t dampen the purple army’s alarm bells."

A good summary, imv.

This train has a long way to go, no need to jump off at this stage.  Freo have a tough fixture with double up games vs Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, West Coast, Western Bulldogs and all bar WCE yet to be played.

imv Freo is already out of top 4 contention and I still think they will struggle to make the 8.

The Crows will beat them tomorrow.

The way they are playing at the moment the Hawks would beat them.

There'll be no finals this year. I'm pretty sure of that. No forwards, they can't kick a score (unless playing against a depleted Eagles).

We'll have a pick between 5-8 i reckon.

Frederick out injured 😂

Omg is he really?

Backflips are cursed. Viney hurt his knee after doing a backflip at training. Lucky Oliver doesn’t strike me as a backflipper!

I don't normally laugh at injuries and I don't know if the backflip caused it but it's still funny

Incredible that after two poor performances to start the season and a final quarter burst against a wounded West Coast, Fremantle sits in 9th place on the ladder.

Ninth, or equal second last!

Adelaide gets the job done and Cats do as they ought to against Hawthorn, Freo will have 1 very dubious win after 4 rounds, and be equal last after what is probably their softest part of their fixture for the season.

I love this thread. If they lose to the Crows tmw the wheels will well and truely be off. Fingers crossed for a top ten pick.
Another team I’m keeping an eye on is the Suns. They have an academy player that currently rated in the top 5 and will prob try to trade up or back in the draft.  I think in an ideal scenario they would miss finals but finish ahead of Freo. That would make us a more appealing option for any team willing to trade a top 5 pick and we would be in a good position to trade with Suns should they decide to trade out their first rounder.
We could end up with 2 top 10 picks👏

I feel there is a lot of truth to this summary as signing Jackson has thrown off their team balance however an equal factor is the best 22 players that left. Griffen Logue, Blake Acers and Rory Lobb.
They have the cattle to win maybe 5-8 games this year.

We all Remember the days when the draft was our premiership. To have us win a premiership in 2021, with real hope for a second, and looking at a top ten, possibly top 5 pick coming back is better than Xmas. I feel like I’m living like a unicorn 😜

I will be watching the game today, reading 2023 phantom drafts, and laughing at those who thought they were the unicorn.

Bring it on…

    GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs Essendon

It’s game day and the Demons face a massive test which may determine whether they have what it takes to play finals this season. The task has been made all the more difficult without their Premiership Captain Max Gawn.

    GIANT HEADACHE by Whispering Jack

The crack in the captain’s ankle might be very small but the repercussions of the injury are enormous. The aftershock of the news that Max Gawn will sit on the sidelines for the next two or three weeks has provided Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin with a giant headache, not unlike the one he faced after the Kings Birthday when another Demon superstar Christian Petracca suffered his season-ending injury. That headache is magnified by the fact that Goodwin is facing a month of tough encounters a

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.
