This thread is fun but I’d happily be your bookie if you think North will beat Freo this wk.

Mate if Norf beat Freo over there this week, the death mobile should hit the road.

Agree - can't see Roos backing up with such a young inexperienced side.Ā  At the same time, I could see them getting hold of Freo in the centre bounces.Ā  Contrary to popular belief, Brayshaw is not an effective centre bounce / clearance player and Serong is not currently setting the world on fire either - and yet they have both in for most centre bounces.Ā  Meanwhile Fyfe is in the forwardline looking like a fish out of water and Mundy has hung up the boots

What do you reckon it is that separates Brayshaw from the elite clearance players Deelusions? I ask because I was having similar thoughts in that Saints game but couldn't quite put my finger on it. 186cm and 86kg so he holds his own physically but could it be more of a smarts or instinctive thing? Interested to hear thoughts.

It's a fair question - I don't think I've seen enough of them to say for sure.Ā  I don't think there's any reason why Brayshaw couldn't be an elite clearance player... but it seems odd that he spends a lot of time in centre bounces for little return.Ā  He's one of the best players in the AFL so maybe if he's on a wing or HFF or HBF you'd maximise his abilities.Ā  Particularly when Fyfe is sitting in the forward line.

Potentially its about Freo having the right mix in the centre bounces so that the players work together to block the opposition etc.Ā  But if Brayshaw is attending 17 (85%) CBs on the weekend and only getting 1 clearance I don't think its working.Ā  He also attended 17/18 centre bounces in the finals v the dogs and the pies and didn't get a clearance in either!Ā  We all know he can play - but maybe the opposition have worked him out, maybe he's not getting the support / blocks he needs or maybe he's not a natural centre bounce player.

Agreed.

West Coast are hot garbage. Let's not get carried away because Norf barely beat them.

Freo will destroy Norf.

Maybe, if he is being misused, despite his contract status, he could get itchy feet and want to join his brother at a successful well run club?Ā šŸ¤”šŸ™„šŸ˜

Rising star Sheezel the Cheezel to kick half a dozen from half back flank. Put your money on it…. 🤪

Norf win and Freeo can’t kick more goals as collective than the Cheezel alone

Death riding!!!!Ā

Freo won’t finish that low, but jeez it’s be gold if we wound up with pick 5 after winning the premiership this year!

Agree, not likely to finish that low.

But a handful of players, including Jackson and Darcy, dont look AFL level fit.

And they only need a couple of key injuries to start getting the wobbles, particularly if there is any disharmony (not suggesting there is....but).

Pffft the Doggies at the pointy end again!Ā

Not able to watch this game. Anybody watching? Are freo playing as bad as the scoring suggest?Ā

Just got home and keeping an eye on Freo v North and honestly, I think there are people on Demonland more interest int he result of this game than some of the Fremantle players.

North, on the other hand, may yet force us to admit that Clarkson is a good coach.

Ā

Cunnington is a seriously underrated player. been very good so far.

Where the F are the umps finding these frees. seriously

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Sunday’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
