Interesting looking at Verrall's number in the under 18's SANFL level his disposal number are midfield like and seems to hit the scoreboard.

Intrigued by this selection purely because he's not a raw skinny type like the Bradke, Fillopovic, King who could barely win the footy or hit the score at any competition level.

The thing I found interesting is he averaged 16 disposals, 5 clearances and a stack of hit outs not only in 2022 but in 15 under 18 games in 2021.

He took a nice step forward with marking and goal scoring in 2022 but otherwise seemed to stagnate a bit.

And then there’s this quote from the SA Under 18 coach:

Bangers Says - Tony Bamford's assessment of Will Verrall

”We didn’t know what was going to happen with Will because he had a really interrupted preseason with some injuries to his groins and hips which he carried through the back end of his U17 year.

”We thought he had gotten over that but as he started to come back into South Adelaide’s preseason in February last year, some signs of aggravation reared again so he had to stop training altogether and restart his rehab.

”That really hindered his ability to get on the track and get his match fitness. ”Had Will Verrall been fit and firing, on all four cylinders, like he was as a 17-year-old, we would have played both rucks at the Nationals.

”Because at his best, Will Verrall is as good as (Harry) Barnett. So (AFL) clubs are doing some work on Will Verrall now based on what he did as a 17-year-old, knowing it was at a really high level.”

If 2021 was a true representation of his talent and this year he was hampered by groins and an interrupted preseason then we may have got a bargain.

Thanks DeeSpencer that is a great pickup, if his coach believes he is as good as Harry Barnett pre injuries, how good is that for us. Just need to get Verral and Addams over their injuries and fully fit and who knows what they can become.!!

Unless this is an optical illusion then I would suggest that Will Verrall is still growing and would be up around 202cm.

Yep, if the top shelf is too high for a 195 cm person, then you are right.

Will looks like he is well over 200cm maybe his hair style makes him look taller, since Kyah is supposed to be 206cm and the is not 2+inches difference.

If you look at their shoulders not the top of their heads the difference is a bit more obvious

Will has a fair mop of hair 😃

Well that's not what he's recruited for thankfully!

Check his highlight reel and high marking is his forte and he has great hands also.

JT gets the good oil !!

Poor man’s Jack Fitzpatrick. With development resources tied up in Jefferson, Adams and Big Kyah I’m a little surprised we went for a rookie teen ruck after years of not making it a priority.

What a dumb post. There is far, far, far more chance of Verrall becoming a player than Farris-White. Jason admitted that openly that KFW is a total throw at the stumps. Verrall has clear talent and if not for injury would’ve been in the conversation with Barnett for the best ruck in the pool. Not to mention, he gets to learn off the two best ruckman of the last decade.

Adding to this, Verrall has played footy properly for the last 3 years at least, Farris-White hasn’t played a game in 5 years? Not sure if people have forgotten what a “Cat B Rookie” is.

What's this "of" word you're using here?

After yesterday’s handy efforts in the match sim i thought I’d  highlight what Tony Bamford, the South Australian U18 coach had to say about Will

”Because at his best, Will Verrall is as good as (Harry) Barnett. So (AFL) clubs are doing some work on Will Verrall now based on what he did as a 17-year-old, knowing it was at a really high level.”

The Harry Barnett that he is talking about was considered the best ruck prospect in the draft and who went to West Coast at pick 23.
Also interesting to note that when asked to describe himself in one word Will answered with ‘mobile’.
A young, mobile, 200cm interstater. Sounds vaguely familiar …..

Edit

Draft Combine results

Running vertical jump: Equal 3rd (90cm)

20m sprint: 3.05 seconds

He took a couple of strong contested marks up forward. that made me sit up and take note.

If he can really becoming a goal kicking forward ruck then we've got a steal here.

Signs are good early. As with all talls we will need patience for him to develop his game. However in his favour is the fact that he is already quite physically developed. Club site has him listed as 97kg and seeing him up close you could easily mistake him for a 3-4th year player due to his size.

After watching him in the match simulation yesterday I had a good look at him and a number of our youngsters at the family day this morning and he looks the goods confidant and friendly with the kids and adults alike. I have high hopes for Will.!!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
