max gruzewksi ahead of him with 30.19 from 13 games

Played 3 AFL games this year

Kicked 2 goals in his AFL debut. Not much else to write home about though albeit from limited game time. Pretty sure he was injured and subbed out of his last game.

He would be a great trade target for us. Imagine yelling Rooooo and/or Gruuuuuu everytime the the ball goes into our forward line!

His kicking technique needs work because imo he often gets too close to the man on the mark and as a result he is forced to kick the ball higher than he needs to. This means his kicks are more susceptible to being pushed offline due to any wind and they can lack penetration and fall shorter than would otherwise be the case

I am not saying I’m an expert but I also think his ball drop looks a bit high which also may result in less consistent contact

He isn’t terrible and I really think it’s a matter of making some small adjustments to get better results

will fit right in with our AFL side

Actually I know inaccuracies have cost us games before but Fritta, JVR and Dan Turner all have pretty good goal kicking routines

No Demon media vision announcing Jefferson's debut as yet. Seems unlikely.  Disappointing.  Seems ridiculous to follow the JVR model. We were in the finals battle and the not the right time time for him. We are out of contention now.

Most announcements come arvo Wednesday. They'd have training and announce then or after, media released later.

Also, taking a look back at the 2022 draft national and rookie drafts...

  • 24 key position players (193cm+) were drafted
  • 7 have debuted. 5 have played 6 or less games
  • Only Tylar Young and Aaron Cadman have played a lot (29/28 games)

Yes we'd like Jeffo to be further along but he's not alone. If he gets a game this year, he'll be ahead of two-thirds of the KPP drafted in 2022.

Matt Jefferson Debut Watch

“He's getting closer and closer all the time. We're rapt with Jeffo,” Goodwin said

“It's a really tough time as a developing key forward when you get drafted and how long it can take. And his last eight to 10 weeks has been fantastic in the ways developed his game.

“Whether that's a game this week or in the coming weeks, we'll wait and see.”

Which means Goody's delusional obsession with playing finals this year means that great forward Petty 6 goals probably gets another gig. BUT Simon dont you realise we are sinking!

Agreed but No we have sunk but it wont look good on his Resume if he doesnt  make the Finals he is a very selfish person that does not respect  his assistants views just take a look at our so called game plan changed earlier in the season  but it  still is not suitable to our list

Even if he kicked a bag. I’d be going after Waterman.

I think Jibroni mentioned that Waterman was gone.

Who is delusional? We are not "sinking": this year is gone - but he knows he can't say that. And I don't blame him for the bad year either, as I have made clear on many threads.

I think it is good that he is not rushing the development of a young key forward.

Ever heard of a coach saying the season is done before it is?

Kills the players and the fans.

I am sure he knows the reality better than we do.

Jeffo will debut this week

and I for one, would love to see a selfie of @picket fence when he hears the news

100%. Imagine a coach giving up on his players? Just because he knows that finals are unlikely doesn’t mean he shouldn’t turn up trying to win every game.

Perfect apprenticeship for the seniors at Melbourne I would have thought.

Keeping the standards high. As high as mount Kosciuszko.

(I'm sure even when written, you felt a churning in your stomach knowing that it was inevitably mispronounced in my head)

Haha, yep! Kościuszko has been anglicised and sounds quite different in pronunciation. Don't even get me started on the man who named the tallest mountain in Australia - Paweł Strzelecki 🤣😂

Putting aside the "question" as to whether or not a coach should be aiming to play finals (!) or manifesting a never-say-die attitude, there are plenty of coaches who try to finish off the season as strongly as possible to bring positivity and optimism going into the pre-season. "We may have missed the finals, but look at how well we did in the last couple of games, yadda yadda."

I also would have thought that throwing everything at denying the Pies a place in the finals is a hill worth dying on.

I doubt Jeffo will get a game this week. Goody hinted he is close but also hinted Taommo will get a gig in May's place.

Plus a 1st gamer KPF up against an in for PA. Tough.

If we lose this week and can't make the 8 and he plays well in the VFL i think he would be a reasonable chance to come in against GC.

The club would constantly be the VFL players on where they stand etc. so Jeffo would firmly know where he stands.

I always thought it was 'chips, wine and a pide loaf' in reference to random hangover leftovers. The whole song has a 'hangover and go again' vibe anyway.

But back to President Jeffo; I have taken a lot of comfort from your enthusiasm about him, not just because of the slithera-dodging dedicated observation but also recalling your profound exasperation of yesteryears when we drafted a whole string of very lightly built kids who collectively got shoved out of the way.

So when a lightly built and not especially mongrelly young tall gets a nod from PF, I reckon there's reason for optimism.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
