The Western Bulldogs have emerged as a shock contender to snatch Essendon’s No.4 draft pick in a plot twist to the Josh Dunkley trade saga. The Dogs, armed with selections 11, 21, 39 as well as two first-round selections in the 2023 draft, have made a late pitch to poach the prized selection. They received picks 21 and Brisbane Lions’ future first-round pick as part of the Dunkley deal that stretched the trade deadline due to tense negotiations. The Herald Sun can reveal that the Dogs are one of four clubs locked in 11th-hour talks with the Bombers over the No.4 pick. Melbourne also has strong interest and, like the Dogs, has significant draft capital in 2023 to help broker a deal. from the Herald Sun 3 1 Quote
Nascent 9,345 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 They probably have us beat if they're offering both future firsts along with pick 11. Think Essendon hold onto pick 4 regardless. 2 Quote
FritschyBusiness 1,478 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 I think the bombers would be foolish to trade pick 4. There is a swag of obviously highly talented players in this draft and they will all go early. 1 Quote

Demonland 74,435 Posted November 28, 2022 Author Posted November 28, 2022 It was reported on Sunday night Melbourne had offered three first-round picks - pick 13 this year, plus future picks tied to the Demons and Fremantle - for picks 4 and 22. Now the Herald Sun has reported the Western Bulldogs, who own picks 11, 21 and 39 plus two future first-round picks (their own and Brisbane’s) are also making a bid for the Bombers’ prized selection. 1 Quote

So we are trading 3 untried players with potential for 2 untried players with potential. Our 3 first round picks are 13 this year and next year is totally dependent on where Melbourne and Fremantle finish. Say Freo are 6th and Melbourne are 4th then we are trading 2022 13 and 2023 13 & 15 for 2022 4 & 22. I suppose it all depends on how you rate 4, 13 & 22 this year. Normally 4 would be significantly higher than 13 with the gap between 13 & 22 much smaller. I assume Melbourne is after a specific player that will definitely go Top 5, and still think they'll get someone decent at 22. 5 hours ago, Grouse said: For those that can read it it's an article written around these figures. Top ten statistically is far more valuable than the next tier. Lies, damned lies & statistics. Why group 1-10 & 11-20? Why not 1-5, 6-10,11-15, 16-20? Having said that, the average games differential is surprisingly close. There are so many other variables but I accept elite talent does make a difference. I would argue everything other than say average games & All Australian Selections is fairly meaningless. 2 hours ago, Nascent said: They probably have us beat if they're offering both future firsts along with pick 11. Think Essendon hold onto pick 4 regardless. We'll find out soon but I don't see the Bulldogs future firsts being any better than Melbourne's. Will Brisbane & Western Bulldogs finish lower than Melbourne & Fremantle in 2023? 2 hours ago, FritschyBusiness said: I think the bombers would be foolish to trade pick 4. There is a swag of obviously highly talented players in this draft and they will all go early. If there's a swag by definition they all won't go early. If there's only 5 highly talented players and a big gap after that, I agree you don't trade 4 but if you think there's not a huge gap between 4 & 13 then why not? When do the highly-talented players run out? 5, 10, 15 or even 20? 1 hour ago, adonski said: Dees to bid on Davey @ 13 if Dons don't trade with us (opinion but hopefully fact), wiping out pick 22 Madness! I'm not saying Cal Twomey is infallible but he doesn't rate Davey Top 30. If Melbourne bid for Davey we'd likely get stuck with a player we don't need or want as Essendon wouldn't match the bid. dees189227 12,512 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Poor Cameron McKenzie, gets presented with his jumper by David Hale. Surely Hawthorn could have got someone else. I mean Cadman got his jumper from Toby & the Essendon kid got his from Matty Lloyd 1 Quote
