Interested to see what happens with Brayden George, the ACL likely to make him fall in the order.

Well, that was a yawn - much ado about nothing. Predictable when dealing with the Peptides who don't know a good deal when they see one.

Especially with Dodo in charge.

Interesting from the Age article

Taylor stopped short of revealing who Melbourne were interested in but said a “young ruck” was one direction they could go, after selecting Matt Jefferson to potentially pair with Jacob Van Rooyen as future twin towers in attack.

Clearly Barnett is right in the frame here.

Ducks & drakes. Only exceptional rucks get taken outside the rookie draft.

I would be super happy picking up Barnett. Not sure if it's worth trading out a good pick next year though.

Sounds like our type of ruck.

This year's most highly touted ruckman, Barnett is a contested marking weapon whether pushing forward or behind the ball. Though the middle, Barnett is an effective tap ruckman, but what separates him at ruck contests is his strength to win the ball himself out of the ruck before disposing of the football.

Christine?

You are showing your age. I was in love with her at the age of 10. Not sure why.

gws pick 22 & 34 for f1 and 37 to try and get george/cowan/barnett

We're only taking one more pick so this won't work. Maybe f1 and 37 for 22 and a f2?

Me too, makes perfect sense. Ruckman rarely have impact before 22/23 yo. Both Max and Brodie will be well into their 30's by then so why not give Barnett and Faris-White the best mentorship imaginable. It could be the perfect succession plan.

Also wouldn't have a problem giving up our first pick next year to get him.

i preferred mandy rice-davies, but i was always a sucker for the blondes

I wouldn’t trade up for him but Hudson O’Keefe is very underrated if he was available at 38. Great combination of athleticism and physicality. Similar to Draper at Essendon

An excellent insight into the wheeling and dealing of the first round draft night.  While not much happened there was a lot happening behind the scene.  trades-that-didn-t-come-off and unsurprisingly we were in the thick of it!  I wonder who we had in mind for GWS's (initial) pick #19?

There are few unknowns between the clubs at draft time.

Sydney's bids and trades were the only interesting aspect of the whole draft.  .

While Twomey had a fair bit of the info before the draft, I'm guessing the finer details have been provided to him in the last week.

Fascinating reading.

I was informed 4 weeks ago by an Essendon insider that the Bombers were 99% certain to take Tsatas.

Great insight. Cal Twomey really putting himself out there as one of the best journo's in the land when it comes to the draft.

Will be very interesting to watch if we target Humphrey's in the future when he comes out of contract.

Maybe they can throw in pick 7 when we steal him away?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
