Simple question. I had a card with membership pack sent and it has my seat number and a barcode and reference number. I hope you can use the card to enter the ground instead of going through all this nonsnse with mobile phones. Does anyone know the answer ?

I don't think it's fair to include finals crowds in the attendance discussion.

The round 21 crowd against the pies was made up of 50,000 of them, was the most disappointing Melbourne turnout of the year.

I merely picked up on the comment that was our crowds fell off at the end.  Not sure 50,000 Pies but we were out numbered for a home game.
But the totals were not lower than earlier and IMO what's wrong with counting Finals We had majority by fair way at both.

If it has a barcode on it you should be able to use it to scan in

I’ve often found coming back from the toile that I have missed us kicking a goal.

Perhaps I should go more often, bush?

I’m confused. This figure was reached at 3:34pm today according to a DA member in the know.

Maybe you have E.S.P.,Daise.

nah, was published on membership site on tuesday

should be way past that now. they just haven't update site yet

So I signed up Thursday night but my membership hub is still showing a blank, does this normally take a little while for them to update it?

Yes. Think of Ticketek portal (which is what we are using) as a trip to the internet and the associated services in 2003.

I didn't say our crowds fell off at the end.

We were not outnumbered by a small number at the game, we were mobbed.

There were at least 50,000 of them, the ground was shaking in the 4th quarter when they hit the front.

Finals crowds will always bring the fair weather supporters regardless of the clubs plus 5000+ neutrals.

ur crowds this yea for round 1, Anzac eve and KB are a huge watch. They need to be over 50, 70 and 75 respectively and round 1 ticket sales are not good.

Same my renewal took a few days to show up, presumably because at Ticketek the carrier pigeon was scared by the ferret.

Are people still waiting on their membership packs? I received the AFL membership one last week but nothing from Melbourne yet.

You intervened snd commented on a comment I made to another's post. And made the point about Finals. Aren't I allowed to comment on all of your response.

How do you know that Round1  tickets are not good?

You haven't got the MFC members who are coming like the old days with their card So you can't estimate them. Or MCC members either same way.

I haven't booked because I have my card either.  Maybe if you add 20/30,000 MFC to the sales that might improve the numbers, and MCC then!!

Cwood are always noisiest at the end when Thayer are on top.

In 2017 who made all the noise when Wattsy kicked that famous goal on QB?   No the Pies fans. That was the loudest H and A roar from Dees fans I have ever heard. Final prob goals in the Semi vs Cats in 2018.  And from support of WA neutrals in Perth on GF day when we kicked goals in the third quarter.  I was there!!

On the whole, the crowd averages you pointed out for the last few rounds of 2022 are completely misleading due to the sides we played as FearTheBeard rightly points out.

Regardless of your optimism and red and blue glasses. Melb home crowds were on the most, disappointing last year. We turned up in round 1 for our unavailing of the flag and for the Qualifying final against Sydney. Aside from those games, the big crowds were most obviously helped by playing big club who are also on the up or competing. (Carlton and Collingwood).

This year I'm hoping we turn up more often, in part due to ticketing going back to normal. But also because covid is less of a thing and we'll have a point to prove.

People underestimate the influence a crowd has on a game. Just ask the Collingwood footy club what it feels like to have that noise behind them in the last quarter of a game when they're a goal or two down.

Time to turn up this year.

Agree Jimmy. I know we’ve been over this a lot last year but in general I found out crowd numbers super disappointing in 2022.

There’s no excuse this year. Tickets are back to how people want them, and we’ve had 18 months to acclimatise to life with COVID. If people aren’t showing up now they just don’t want to go.

This is undeniable, Jimmy.

What we hear from the stands is nothing compared to what the players hear from the ground. Must be some sort of acoustics thing (?)

Last QB match, we were on the ground waiting to raise our banner. When the Collingwood players ran out the noise was absolutely staggering. It was literally deafening as in I couldn’t hear the person next to me even if yelling. It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.

When our boys ran out, again the crowd noise was off the charts, only this time it was booing.

There’s simply NO WAY this doesn’t have an effect on the players.

Mustn’t forget Kozzie’s winner with seconds left on the clock, round 22 at the ‘G vs Carlton last year. ❤️💙

Haven't got mine yet, but not fazed as I don't need it to get into the ground or the Redllegs area. I will probably give them a call when I have nothing else to do.

Last time I talked about the membership status in the hub someone got their nose out of joint for no reason at all.

But yeah it might need time to change.

Yes was sitting in the noisiest area last season but in the MCC on QB and the Southern and Northern Stands went berserk MCzc not so loud but still good for them.

The sad thing for me is that when we had 35,000 members we get 20-25,000 dees fans to our games.

When we had 45,000 members we got 20-25000 dees fans to our games.

When we had 55,000 members we got 20-25000 dees fans to our games.

Reckon you get my drift.

We get all these extra members but how many of them actually turn up to games? They just get a membership that either gets them a GFG (our reserved areas were never close to full last year) or 3 game memberships where they may or may not turn up to three games across the year.

The only times we ever seem to get more than 30,000 of our own to our home games is when we give free tickets away (Saints 2017, GWS 2018) Queens Birthday sometimes or when we unfurl a flag (there were 50k of us for that).

Even Anzac Eve home games we get majorly outnumbered by the Tiges - last year was the most Melbourne fans I've seen to an Anzac Eve game and we were the away team.

All these great members numbers of 65,000 or 75,000 is great for some revenue but these people aren't turning up to the games. That is where we have to improve and it will be interesting to see our crowds this year when we have home games against all the big Victorian Clubs except Essendon in primetime slots.

Whilst I agree with your theory my suggestion is that it takes many years for the increase in game attendance flows through. To me it is a generational change where Parents buy tickets for the children for the reasons you state  then when the children get indoctrinated into the Melbourne "way" they then purchase their own and then their families tickets. If you look at the likes of Richmond and to a lesser extent Carlton they have had strong memberships for years built off the appearances they have had in the top "eight"

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
