Injury List: Round 6

Ben Brown - Back  | Test
Max Gawn - Knee  | Test
Michael Hibberd - Achilles | Test
Jake Lever - Ankle  | Test
Charlie Spargo - Concussion | TBC
Kye Turner - Groin | TBC
Joel Smith - Thumb | 1 Week
Christian Salem - Knee | 2 - 4 Weeks
Will Verrall - Pelvis  | 8 - 9 Weeks

Pretty good apart from Will’s pelvis which is starting to look very much like a long term injury because it’s improving at only a very slow rate.

Agree Chelly looks like Will Verral will struggle to get on the park this year and that’s a shame for any young player trying to make an impression.!!!

Haven't read the thread and it might have already been said but how blessed were we for our lack of injuries in 2021?

Hardly any sort of injury to any of our best 25-26 players.  At the time many of us thought that could not happen again and sure enough, we've had a lot of injuries since the GF win.  As well as those players who are obviously carrying some sort of niggle/injury (last year more so)

But premiership teams often have a great run with injury and in fact, I can't recall a premiership team having many of their best players miss a raft of games on their way to the flag

It's probably happened maybe once or twice but I can't recall an instance

Joel Smith manages to find so many different ways to end up on the injury list. I feel for him. But injury prone has never had a better example

Agree 100%. Different matter entirely but I have seen glimpses at times to indicate he could be a quality player

If Verrall is out for the year...and I don't see why you would hurry him back for the last few games, does anyone know how that impacts Melbourne's capacity re mid season draft ?

Doesn't Verrall have a history of hip/pelvis problems?

Agree. I think the Dogs had a fair whack of injuries late in 2016 and Richmond opened 2019 with injuries galore, but by and large premiers are healthy more often than not.

So far this year we have used 29 players, which is tied for 8th-most in the competition. It's not entirely coincidental that St Kilda, Sydney and Essendon are in the top 3 for fewest players used.

Hopefully we will see the fruits of this towards the end of the year.

LTI list?  What does this allow in 2023?

Nelo - certainly does this year.  No idea if any priors.

Just on the whole pelvic bone injury, surgery and recovery. Poor bugger. Would that mean no banging until 100% better?

So what ever Burgess did for us in 2021 he is now doing for Adelaide apparently

Not only superfit but injury free  We are not managing injuries well enough in my opinion

I think a lot of our injuries are accidental ones. For example, what could be done about Gawn? Or Lever rolling an ankle for the 100th time?

Hibbo and May were the only two injuries which were soft tissue related. But both of these guys are old, so it is to be expected.

We have had a lot of 'contact' injuries that can't be avoided, especially when we train with such intensity. Sometimes it is just down to luck.

Care to identify the things you think we're not doing "well enough"?

Our injury situation isn't perfect but it's nowhere near as bad as a number of other clubs (West Coast, St Kilda, Richmond, Carlton and Sydney all immediately come to mind and I haven't even thought about it for all that long).

The doggies lost their heart and soul captain in Rob Murphy mid year to an ACL and then Mitch Wallace who at thr time was playing some exceptional football as an inside midfielder.

Fairly self explanatory question I would have thought?

Not something you'd read on a footy forum every day but sharing is caring.

A difficult road to recovery I imagine.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
