The Western Australian rookie showed signs of gradual improvement through the year at Casey and his progression after a full preseason at the club will be watched with interest.

"The rookie-listed defender is yet to play a senior game, but was a regular in the Casey Demons line-up and played in the VFL premiership win. Signed a new contract in August to retain a spot on the rookie list for next season." - Herald Sun

Date of Birth: 8 July 2003

Height: 185cm

Weight: 70kg

Games CDFC 2022: 19

Goals CDFC 2022: 0

19 games at Casey is a fair effort in his first Rookie year. Hopefully grows a couple more cm’s and puts on 10 kg during the pre- season with a name like Judd and being a great kid would love to see him as a long term player for us.!!

The position of small lock down defender is there for him and D. Smith should their form warrant it next year.

From the games I watched him, i was really surprised we kept him on another year.

Shown little, and hasn’t physically developed.

He got better as the season went on, so it’s worth another year to see if he can produce more of what they saw in him.

It’s just hard work to make it as a back flanker with below average speed and not being a huge ball winner.

But what he did start to show a bit and why I believe they drafted him was his class. Can always do with more classy users.

He is rookie and not every pick makes it but because he is a WA boy, he would make the other WA boys feel more at home.

Just watched the Josh Schache 'Off The Track' interview. I was interested that he singled out Judd McVee very positively. Perhaps Judd's trajectory noticed through 2022 by posters above has continued? Is he a prospect for 2023? (I think others may have canvassed this on the current Salo thread?)

Thoughts? (other than reflections on who singled him out!😉)

I think that you will find Judd has developed physically in the off season and is one of the 2021 recruits that has made improvements in his game. According to some track watchers and MFC officials.

Whoever wrote the article is an [censored]. Should have read "did not have any impact at Casey in his first year".

Not quite. According to the club, he had his best game in the VFL grand final, which for me says he stands up and performs when the pressure is really on. IMO the club see something in him and I'd expect gradual improvement - I think we've seen this over the preseason. Having said that, there's no way he replaces Salem ahead of Bowey.

They may be grooming him for a Michael Hibberd replacement he is 185cm and needs some more muscle but I wouldn’t be writing him off, don’t see him as a Salo replacement could be a utility.!!!

Another 'Off The Track' singling-out of Judd, this time from James Harmes.

Somethin's goin' on...

Ha ha I’m more a Ranger man.!!

The shimmy around Tommy Mc is a classy move.

I doubt he's in line to replace Hibbo. He's not a strong contested player. But I'm sure he's at least in the frame to put pressure on Bowey, Riv or Gus.

Thanks match sim watchers; sounds like Josh and James knew what they were talking about!

A lot of premature speculation early in this thread.

Preseason threads / posts are usually rife with speculation varying from super optimistic to super pessimistic.

But as has been said before - would you prefer to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong, or a pessimist who is always right??

I've always reserved judgement on players until it's obvious, rather than make rash predictions either way.

But for some reason, a few people like to make an early call, hoping they can get the kudos from being proved right, but often looking like fools when they're proved wrong.

What gets overlooked with McVee is his toughness.  He's physically not huge, but he has a real crack.  He has genuine class, very good kicking, he's evasive and he has nice speed, which is at odds with an earlier comment in this thread.  There's a lot to like.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
