Hmmmm....I dunno. 🤔

I still would rather take a chance on a 20 year old Jackson Callow.

But I guess we will wait and see if the Demons think it is worth giving Josh Schache a last shot at an AFL career? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don’t know who this team is that the Bulldogs beat up on, but Schache looks like he has bulked up, significantly. Takes some nice overhead marks. If it’s Weid out, this isn’t a bad replacement. Maybe the penny will drop for him at a new club. Dogs are stocked for forwards. They don’t need him.

To be fair, Weid has had days like that in the VFL probably on >5 occasions. Often against better opposition - including his memorable day out at Box Hill against the Hawks.

These highlights were against Coburg Lions. They went 4-14 for the season and havent finished outside the bottom 4 since 2014 after losing their AFL affiliated team.

A couple of nice marks at the end but the majority were relatively uncontested - his off the ground one in the square bizarrely rewarded his famous lack of intensity.

This guy has already changed clubs and the fresh voice didn't do anything. Weid gets the benefit of the doubt there.

Doesn't excite me - but I'll get behind him if he joins

Josh Schache certainly has talent still.

I think his issues are more psychological.

How you change your mindset and become a more aggressive player like a "Wayne Carey type" is a whole other issue.

His performances for Victoria Country Under 18s many years ago were impressive though.

Perhaps Mark "Choco" Williams will be able to get the best out of Josh Schache?

Some blokes just don’t have it. You’d be wasting Williams’ time.

Like he has with Weideman?

Once Chocco has finished with Schache, perhaps he could then turn his attention to the Russia -Ukraine conflict, hyperinflation, the worldwide cost of living crisis and the covid pandemic?

Can't see them both wearing our beloved red and blue next year. 😉

Not saying you can't change the kid's mindset but anything psychological is one heck of a project. Give me the right mindset over abundance of talent any day.

Don't quite understand the logic in trading Weid only to bring the Shach Attack in, but at the end of the day who really cares about either

I'd be guessing that Weid being in contract might be on $350-400K, whereas with Schache out of contract and seemingly on the scrap head - we might be looking at a delisted free agent not a trade - he might be on $100k or more less. Could they both turn it around with a change of clubs - maybe? But at least we'll be saving some $$ on the similar player.

Would be a bit sad if a highly touted no.2 pick is only on 100k or lower at 25 y.o for his sake. It's a side of the game we don't hear much about.

I think R&B is saying $100k less than the Weid eg $250 - $300k

Trade radio is even worse.

Possibly, would make more sense.

Both filled with National Tiles and Kogan Mobile ads.

A summer training on Steven may will either make or break the guy….

Geez, this Schache bloke, who has some experience, reminds me of Ross Brewer - a very handy fwd flanker from the annals of old age. He has a similar build, height, mobility and kicks just as well once an opportunity is taken. With a bit of 'mongrel' instilled in his efforts ....

It's not psychological.

Ross Brewer! blast from the past there. Remember him kicking 5 or 6 Vs Fitzroy in his first year. when Stan Alves was captain.  In the category “almost v good” .. but he was only ever really just ok.  Went to the pies and kicked the winning goal in a semi  v Fitzroy

Yeah look he hasn’t set the world on fire & just like Weid loads of potential but simply not hard enough at the ball & a bit scared of physical contact.

But maybe this is being Weid driven? He may want the change, need the new environment & he has 1 year left for us which if he stinks it up again like he has every other season will mean the end of his AFL career.Dons may have offered a multi year deal which even if he still stinks means he has a few more $ for a few extra years . Also unlike Freo we are not a club to stop a player from another option.

? Then surely we hold onto Weid.

Why's that mate? Heard something?

The trade embargo is on now, so even though clubs are talking through deals nothing can be actually done until 3pm.

Hope not he is a downgrade on Sam Weideman - can't see why we would even entertain this

I was there at Box Hill that day. He was magnificent - pack marks, long goals. I've been a fan ever since. That he has only rarely lit up as a Demon Forward - a la 2018 Finals - is a great disappointment for me.

How is it a downgrade?

Both similar player really. You could even say Schache has been more productive at AFL level then Weideman.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
