Have no idea if this will come to fruition or even come out in the media and I put it down to pure speculation.

Was just having coffee with a few mates who I hadn't seen for a while and one of them is heavily involved with the Murray Bushrangers under 18's as a development coach.

We were speaking about the junior talent and then got talking about this year's trade period.

Out of the blue he mentioned that apparently we've shown some interest in Josh Schache and have had chats to Josh and his management?

I would like to think I can trust his word purely that he's got contacts within recruiting circles and Josh being an ex bushie.

I have own opinion on this and I honestly don't think it's the right fit even though we're lacking a key forward.

I have the same own opinion but I wouldn't be surprised if he was one we'd looked at.

Reminds me so much of Weideman in terms of their AFL journey.

All the natural talent in the world (he's a beautiful kick) but can't put it together in the seniors for multiple weeks.

He did play an excellent game as a defender against us in one those COVID lock down games in 2021 so perhaps the club has a long memory.

If Schache came in to fill the depth spot left by Mitch Brown then I don't absolutely hate it tbh.

He'd come in on minimum chips and would expect to play mostly VFL IMO.

They can't all be zingers...

If it's true it doesn't make sense to me.

We have Weideman and Brown who lack the physical presence imo and it doesn't make sense when Goodwin has a mantra of getting in players who are genuine competitors and compete.

Then again, at the time I thought we did the right thing by staying away from Peter Wright..

I’d have him train on with the team or play at Casey. With all due respect I’d want to see him fight for his afl future rather than just hand it to him

True.

Probably good way to look at it.

Feel there's too many forwards on our list that can't compete enough physcally.

Fair call, BUT if they did pull the trigger on Petty forward and JVR comes in too then all of a sudden we have a couple of absolute mongrels inside 50.

I'd really love to know if we put any work into Wright, because he has been an absolute steal by Essendon.

Yeah true. As you said as well he'd be some pretty talented depth if he came cheap, he just strikes me as a guy who would frustrate me often!

Didn't he play a couple of games down back for the Dogs? As I recall he was at least useful in that role.

As a forward ....... well he makes a good defender.

Haven't followed him closely, but he's definitely more of a swingman now.

In saying that, finished the year off in the VFL with a few big bags of goals.

Yes, one of them against us at the G in late 2021.

Played well that night.

Absolutely, we'd have to have very low expectations. I'd just see him as a younger Mitch Brown. Will be good for Casey, might play an AFL game or two, but that would be about it.

We were keen in his draft year.

When GCS let him go it was effectively a salary dump for a big contract.  Traded for a 4th round future pick.

Doubt we could have absorbed his salary.  Had TMc or ANB trades eventuated we may night have been able to.  Water under the bridge now.

He should have got that free in the GF. A sliding doors moment. I think we must only be looking at him as a possible replacement for Petty if Petty goes forward. I would not mind him as our third tall intercept mark down back.

I'm not entirely sure we were actually that keen?

One of Wright's weaknesses in his junior days was his perceived lack of competitiveness, in other words he was soft and we barely showed interest?

During this period Paul Roos and Todd Viney had a mantra of only drafting players who were highly competitive and driven. Which makes sense why we had Jake Lever rated as a potential top 3 talent.

A Zinger and minimum chips pictured this morning at AFL Trade Headquarters.  The rumour may be true.

I'm struggling to believe this.

He hasn't got a competitive bone in his body.

Schache, Weid and Tomlinson rotting away at Casey. Yuck.

Regardless of how cheap he comes, unless the Footy Dept see him playing a meaningful role at AFL level, it's a waste of a list spot.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
