Guest dee'viator
huge test for Neaves this week. Up against Gardnier and Rix, a chance to see what he is made of.

I agree 'kieranbj', sus' isn't it. Maybe PJ?

what the hell is newton doing on the half back flank, they better put him up forward and keep him their so he can kick a big bag

Does not seem like it's ever going to happen (bar accident). It's asking a lot of a 193cm youngster, used to playing as a specialist forward, to impress as a wingman or half-back flanker. Perhaps it's neither doing his chances much good. Might he not even be better off back in the twos? With Dutchy at CHB it must be the tallest HB line to ever hit the field in a VFL game.

I've added the reserves team to the post opening this thread. The player Newton named on the interchange is the brother of Michael Newton.

Newton would merely stagnate and rot in the 2s. He has shown that he clearly has way more talent than that grade. Unfortunately he can do all this without having to perform consistency. He is learning none of the disciplines required for senior football there.

i agree it would be nice to have him as FF. With Sautner at FF he is going to struggle to get a look in. So by playing him up in the midfield he gets to be in the play more regularly and be more focused with his game.

Was just about to ask about that. Is he any good (happy to wait a couple of days for the answer).

We've spoken much about this in the past, and had a number of disagreements.

At the start of the year they were playing Dunn and Juice out of the square, for all of about 90 seconds before Dunn got his face crushed by Bo Nixon. From what I remember either Sauntner was rested or injured. Would there be room for both Sauntner and Juice in there?

I actually like the move of Newton of the HBF, most kids that are drafted have dominated their way through the junior ranks, mainly playing in the positions they want to and doing what they want. We have read from many posters that this kid has got enormous potential and raw ability. From what I've seen at sandy he is also unaccountable and sometimes very lazy. A stint in the backline will hopefully teach him to be accountable for his man and work hard to ensure he beats his man. Playing up forward is a tough job, if the ball doesn't come your way you need to have that defensive side to help kepp the ball in sde your forward 50m and apply pressure on your defender so it isn't an easy clearance.

We already have an example of a FF that as a younger player for the MFC player down back. Now he holds the games and goals kicked record at the club.

im still surprised that Garland got a run with Melb before Juice did... in the absence of nietz and giving kids a shot you would have thought he would have been a chance... oh well... i might potter down to sandy today for a bit of a look

3/4 time Sandy 12 14 86 Scorpions 9 5 59

four goals to Newton

According to radio Daniel Ward - badly (?) torn right thigh

Ouch!

If Neita is not fit for next week, I hope they give Juice a run.

He is more developed and better equiped than Garland IMO. We really have nothing to lose.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
