Disgrace that Hawkins is Captain.

Has never captained at any level. Borderline cheat with his 'flailing' arms and elbows

I'm actually surprised he made it. Had a good year but not as good as last year. Was injured in the first quarter against the Dockers, missed the next two games and then took a few games to get back in the groove after his dust-up.

May’s cunning plan to fire up Melk as a match winner got him into the AA

So apparently the justification for Hawkins AA Captaincy is that his allocation was a bit more of a recognition for this 5th jacket and that it’s not really about the best captain in the AA team.

I don’t buy it and I think it’s about time the AA went under a bit of an overhaul. It should be about trying to field the best 22 against a hypothetical opposition. For that you don’t have 3 KPF, you don’t have inside mids on the wing as a start.

Clarry just turned 25yo. He is entering his prime with 3 AAs and 2 Coaches awards

He is an unstoppable beast

should finish with 8 AAs and 3 flags

maybe a statue too?

Personally couldn’t give a rats who is the captain of this team that will never play anyone

The honour is being selected in the 22

I must say this has been a real fun thing to complain about. Good job everyone 👏

Might as well put Zorko in charge than Mr elbows and hands in the back Hawkins.

He has talent but he's not captain material that's for sure.

You can't go past Max.

Captains are great players but they don't get reported. They are giants of the game but gentlemen too.

The best possible 22 would feature so called inside mids on the wing.

Is anyone really picking Langdon, Daicos, Aish or any other specified winger over Mills, Andy Brayshaw or Heeney? (Touk Miller on the wing is weird, I’ll concede that). Even guys like Bont, Dawson or Laird would kill it as wingers.

Is there another winger of the last decade who clearly outperforms inside mids other than Isaac Smith, who now often plays half forward? If you can mark, kick, run and hold space as an inside mid you can play wing

And why wouldn’t you have 3 key forwards, especially if your back up ruck is a utility? Curnow and Cameron move like flankers anyway, it’s not like they’ve loaded up 3 big lugs who can’t move or tackle.

Max should be skipper by rights, but he got his in a premiership year so "lets share it around" is the likely AFL view  - typically no logic.

BUT Max is the only current playeing Captain  who can claim the title of being also a Premiership Captain.  .  That will do me, and probably him I suspect.

I tell you what....Bayley Fritsch was stiff to miss out!

He has kicked 50 goals for the season (so far) and was probably one of the most dangerous forwards in the whole AFL. Yet still couldn't claim an All Australian Blazer! Talk about being shafted! 😖

Hope he proves the All Australian selectors wrong and helps bring home another Premiership Cup for the Melbourne Demons! 🔴🔵👹

I am ust waiting to hear the pompous outrage on here when he gets the gig as captain

So will he

The simple answer to all the (deserved) criticisms of the AA selection process is to select two teams of 22 for a hypothetical clash between the two sides billed as the All Australian Dream Match.

Will then have the room to select both teams in correct positions without having to squeeze in (or out) players.

Better still, try to play a match as, say, the All Stars in US basketball where each player can exhibit their best skills and the result doesn't matter.

Add a school yard flavour to it and have two captains pick their 22 live on air. How funny and entertaining and cringeworthy would that be.

But, fun game, who gets picked last out of the 44?

Congratulations to Gawn who is clearly the best ruckman since Dean Cox. 6 AA's puts him in rare air.  Oliver will be there soon enough, and well done to Petracca and May on their achievements.

Maxy had gone well beyond Dean Cox at this point, compare the pair:

Dean Cox:

290 Games

1 Premiership

6 AA

1 B&F

Max Gawn:

179 Games

1 Premiership (Captain!)

6 AA (1 AA Captain)

2 B & F

1 AFLCA

Maxy has achieved everything Cox has, and more, in 111 less games, in a comp with more teams, far higher standards and he’s far from finished!

The All Australian Commonwealth Games Swimming Team was selected by a panel of former swimmers and a couple of sports journalists last evening. While it is a great team, including several gold medallists and at least two world record holders, a few selections have raised eyebrows in swimming circles.

The best 100 metre breaststroke position was filled by a specialist 100 metre freestyler... Selectors defended this unusual decision by pointing out that it was a particularly good year for freestylers and it was impossible to limit the squad to the three freestyle positions normally allocated.

In another selection anomaly, the worlds leading backstroker, and current world record holder from 50 metres to 200 metres, was selected in the 10 metre platform diving position.

Possibly the most contentious selection was that of the All Australian Swimming Coach for 2022. That position was filled by the chef de mission for the team, who has a background in lawn bowls!

And May to towel up Hawkins in the PF or GF; again.  AA Selectors to see that they are very, very, silly people.

On the odd occasion that the Cats are being thrashed, Hawkins gets a bit misty in the eyes; not what you want to see in your onfield leader..

Dane Zorko probably eats his Wheat Bix dry.

Strictly Shateaux Cardboard given recent behaviour. Blues prefer brown paper bags of course.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
