I'm actually surprised he made it. Had a good year but not as good as last year. Was injured in the first quarter against the Dockers, missed the next two games and then took a few games to get back in the groove after his dust-up.

Most "new" champion choices often make the team in their second breakout year as Selectors trust the new champs on the block.

Players like Sinclair and Saad are one hit wonders generally.

Felt like Brayshaw stiff not to at least make the bench, not sure rozee had that good of a year. One again no wings, with the way the transition game is played these days they are one of the most important roles in any serious team, no coincidence that all the best sides have at least one good winger.

Rozee finished 5th in the coaches votes 1 behind Tracc and 10 behind Clarry and Miller. He deserves his spot.

how Tom Lynch doesn’t get in ahead of Hawkins is beyond me though. Clearly wanted a cats captain.

Don’t get the Tom lynch or tex argument

you can’t have more than 3 kpf

i actually think it should only be 2

curnow most goals

cameron probably best overall player this year

and Tom Hawkins goals and goal assists probably gives him nod as well as geelongs record

tom lynch only kicked 19 goals against top 8 teams with bags at the end of the year against hawks who didn’t even play sicily on him and Essendon who were cooked

For starters, Hawkins only kicked 16 goals against top 8 teams (8 games, 2 goals/game) and Lynch kicked 19 goals against top 8 teams from 5 games (3.8 goals/game) and kicked more goals overall despite playing 5 less games. It was an objectively superior body of work.

Tom lynch goal assists 6

tom Hawkins goal assists 26

I used to live next door to Clarko. I had an argument with him about who was better out of Oliver and Cripps.

1 to Wrecker 0 for Clarko.

When we payed Carlton I noticed Cripps tagging Oliver a few times at centre bounces. Oliver would get away from him and Cripps was following him.

You won't see Clarry tagging anyone. Cam.you.imagime if he got a free run.at the ball.

You had an argument with Clarko? Have you got a death wish? 😛

Disgrace that Hawkins is Captain.

Has never captained at any level. Borderline cheat with his 'flailing' arms and elbows

Don't forget the litres of baby oil to make it harder to tackle him and some of his team mates.

Another job well done by the selectors, trying to squeeze in 19 inside mids into a 22 man squad.

Wingers do not exist.

Then don't read it. You saw the topic title.

The topic title wasn't "Let's have a whinge about all the Geelong players in the AA Team".

Great idea for a thread DS. I love bagging Geelong

No idea how Blicavs keeps getting AA, Brayshaw extremely unlucky.

Huh? Isn’t this Blicavs’ first AA?

Hawkins captain is a bigger middle finger than Trump getting presidency.

Maybe if the selectors let people know their criteria.

In my my if you are a club captain and good enough to make the starting 18 then You should be 1st choice . If their a more than one choose the captain they feel had the better year (Cripps this year)

If it's just a lifetime achievement award just let people know to avoid all the ambiguity

I think part of it is to generate discussion

I’d like it if the players awarded AA were then asked on the spot to vote for their  captain (not the selectors captain). Secret ballot style to be read out at the end.
I think that would result in a captain everyone respects.

That's right. I personally thought Cripps should have been bench but he's in the team so captain makes sense. Or how about this novel concept: Touk Miller?

It's not supposed to be a popularity contest and something where bozos can chat afterwards with comments like "I'm glad they gave it to him"

Must admit I just expected it to be the Premiership Captain who just received his sixth All Australian Jacket but I suppose Hawkins has been such a great captain at glong. Grrrr bloody grrrr. Turned off at that point.!!!!

Obviously the selectors got orgasmic after the vision appeared of Hawkins running downfield to admonish the poor ball movement of his team’s defenders. True captain’s worth🙄

I think they let the people know when first Rance, and then Franklin was made AA captain in 2018. He wasnt part of the leadership group at the Swans and like Hawkins had never been captain. Since Selwood they spread it around now.

They dont spell it out because they know the outrage and debate get the clicks!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
