Enjoy the win of course, but it's important to be realistic and the reality is we're not wining it this year.

Says who? That's just garbage. We may not win it, but if we play to our best, there's every chance.

Reckon Jayden Hunt is the only reason we won that game and it was due to a bit of dare - be nice if collectively we could employ that mindset across more than the last quarter

I’d like to see Hunt played off the wing, replacing Jordon who can fold into the midfield rotations.

Sorry but we're not winning it with a dysfunctional forward line

I terms of total scores kicked for the season so far we’re 6th out of the 18 teams. Points conceded? 1st.

I would say we’re in with a shot, but I’m glass half full.

That is hopefully the game that will flick the switch for a Successful September.
Carlscum were playing for their lives tonight. That was their most important game for 10 years, and we broke them.

Agreed. He just needs to slow down before he kicks the ball. But was quite clean tonight with foot.

Yes! 😀

A shame we couldn't do that last week but I like to think this will give us a lot of confidence.

I'm sorry but I'm more happier when max is in the ruck.

Wow kozzie you were right where I've always wanted you to stand and look what happened.

It was just a crazy final 2 minutes. But I must admit when kozzie scored I jumped out of my seat & did a first pump. That was gold

I’ll happily take the 4 points, although it feels like we stole it.

we’re just so predictable over the past 10-12 rounds, we have lost all our offensive dare, Second to the ball, hate to say it but soft at the contest at times tonight.

unless we’re about to hit a switch but we’re struggling under the pressure of being reigning premiers it feels.

I’ll be cheering on at the Gabba, let’s hope some offensive is found during the week.

it would be nice to kick it to BBB on the lead just once and not to him with 3 defenders.

🔵🔴🔴🔴🔵

Well how do you do that when they're stuck to him

You write in absolutes. I'll say this; an average forward line (and yes it is right now) can look a helluva lot better when we take the game on up field.

That's not good enough because we'll be playing higher quality teams in the finals

I thought Melksham was the difference tonight. He was fantastic. He needs a lot of praise for that game. It was awe inspiring.

If you would have told me melky would have been our best forward in rd 22 at the start of the year, I would not have believed you.

Called @dazzledavey36 out last week and have been ear-bashed by crickets since. 🤣

c’mon Dazz…. You know I’m not having a crack but rather curiosity about how you answer this.
Viney should’ve been traded a few years ago though hey?

I legitimately have no idea what you're on about.

This is the first time I've seen anything from you. What's the Viney comment?

Just so proud of the boys. The Carlton fans dominated in M2 adjacent to our Demon Army and to silence them was so sweet.

We won scrappy and ugly. Great that we can win a game like this. It doesn’t have to be a defensive masterpiece game of chess. We can hang in the contest and get over the top of a team desperate to cement a finals appearance.

Carn the Dees!

Will take it. Blues should feel real ripped off

If it makes them feel worse, i hope they do too.

🤣

Jayden Hunt and Michael Hibberd were absolutely superb as well, great dash off half back and very strong defensively tonight.

Character building stuff. We can whinge about not winning by enough or not playing as fluid a football as we can. The bottom line is that we showed a will to win tonight that premiership teams need.

Those last two entries resulting in goals need to be our template from this point onward.

We don’t need to hit a forward lace out directly in front, 30 from goal every time. Collingwood understood that brilliantly last week. It’s a matter of fast, penetrating kicks to the teeth of goal that are too red hot to float in to intercept mark and can fashion either a chest mark or spillage. To be fair, Melky was just lucky. But we set Kozzie up wonderfully for that last goal.

Call it blasphemy (I’m bracing for a ban as we speak 😄), but I felt a bit for Carlton’s supporters. On personnel alone, they are a finals team. They have a more than competent coach. Yet injuries and sliding doors moments might cost them like us in 2017. That game when the Eagles beat the Crows by 22 had me feeling pretty low. I’d say their mob would feel the same.

Let’s think positive. We roll Brissy next week and we’ve won 16. That’s one less than last year. It’s always going to be tough in this competition to have the type of season we had in 2021. Yet, we get the win and we find ourselves in as good a position as any to win the flag.

Get on board! All tickets for the D-Train. Final stop: September! 😎

Oh? Where do they come from? We just played a team that was playing a game as if their lives depended on it and scraped out a win. Almost did the same last week. We smashed Freo over in WA.

Is our forward line the best? No. Is it enough with the rest of the team to give us a chance in September? You bet.

Yawn. You do this all the time. How about you just stop bagging Melbourne players all the time?

Come off it Nash.

Half this site was smashing Melksham few weeks ago.

You going to call them as well or just lay under the doona's as usual.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
