Lol.. surprise surprise..

Must be the year of rewarding mediocrity.

Unbelievable.

$ 2.52 on Port. Take it.

You couldn't be more wrong. It's because their form at VFL level warrants selection, and the likes of Melksham, Weideman and Tomlinson have been tried and failed.

I have no issue with Goody and his game plan. But this group doesn't include 2 key pieces in Oliver and Petty. This is a must win game if we want to make the Top 4.

I disagree on Tommo mo. He was playing terrific footy before his serious injury.  Maybe he just needs more time - it's fair enough to give him another chance as he can play that Petty role.

I only read this forum.

Mainly for the comedy, the game day thread is entertaining, but the Team Selection wins hands down.

We won a premiership last year, we have had a few ups and downs but we are still top four

So selection must be do something right

AMD is in NT, maybe his housemate JVR is with him, prefer that instead of rushing in a player who is developing nicely in the VFL without any pressure.

Bowey is understandable, the extended bench predictable

His play at VFL level suggests he doesn't have the same mobility as pre ACL. Joel Smith and Turner have been preferred to him at different stages this year. He has to play this week because we have no other options, but his form doesn't warrant selection.

Yes I agree with prior views.

Outs:  Clarry (inj), Bowey (omitted), Petty (H&S)

Likely Ins:  Dunstan, Hunt & Tomlinson

JVR & Laurie are very unlucky. Chandler has to wait. Weideman disappointingly has definitely slumped again this year

Bowey had to go. Poor for several weeks and not effective.
Bedford and Spargo must be on “red alert” and consider themselves very lucky to stay in.

Well, let's hope he steps up mo!

Yeah, it is amusing witnessing some posters' going into panic mode.

I like two things in particular:

- Max is named at chf

- Kossie is named in the midfield

Not that the magnet on the board means they will play there, but it gives me hope they might

I feel a loss coming on. We just lost our best player and most consistent defender.

I reckon Dunstan goes alright.

But I wouldn't mind his number either.

I'm after some lamb chops, some nice eye fillet, rump steak and chuck steak for my casseroles.*

*seriously hope he can fix up his disposal.

Absolutely correct.

He’s not Oliver tho

I don't get all the complaining, with the sole exception of Melksham being included.

Tomlinson has to replace Petty. We don't have anyone else, with Smith injured, and we can't not take a third tall given they have Dixon, Marshall and (if he holds his spot) Georgiades.

It's not exactly a shock that Dunstan's on the extended bench. The odds were always in favour of a like-for-like replacement for Oliver as opposed to moving Brayshaw up into his spot. Nevertheless, that's still an option, given both Rivers and Hunt are in the squad too.

And it's not exactly a shock that Bowey's been dropped given his poor form.

That's three changes. I personally would like to see a second tall forward and given the bench, that has to mean Weid comes in at the expense of Bedford. But given we already have three changes it may well be that the FD don't want a fourth. They've named Gawn at CHF and Pickett in the middle so maybe they are going to make some changes with the other members of the best 22.

I’m picking Viney to have another Brisbane like performance.

In one way, Pickett is too good a player to drop, so giving him time in the middle gets him involved more, builds his confidence and adds an X factor which differs from Tracc, Viney and the other mids

We are the premiers and second on the ladder. If we put this team against a top four side it would be tough

However, if we haven’t got the depth to beat a bottom half side - we are in trouble!

Forget science.

Nothing truer has ever been said haha.

Correct. While he’s never going to bash and crash like the big bodies, if he gets his hands on the pill his breakaway pace can create fast forward entries

Your delightful air of superiority remains undiminished Saty.

Also has an ability to shift time.

Seemed as if he was gone for the longest time, and with a single post, it's as if he was never gone.

Surprised with the negativity, Port dont have a ruck and have been average against top 8 sides this year.

We will bounce back and win this.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
