I'm more interested in Gawn going back more like 2021 and Grundy being the more aggressive ruckman kicking to (hopefully) JVR, BBB and TMac.

 

I just want to see him on the premiership dais getting a medal and then the reaction, would be a thing of beauty

Remember, we didn't start this trade period with pick 27, we traded for it.

So it's actually 33, 43 and 53 for Grundy (with Collingwood paying some of his salary).

But if you believe the club, we had no intention of ever using 43 and 53.

Which really mean, when it all boils down to it, we spent pick 33 and got Grundy (with Collingwood paying some of his salary).

Will it work? Who knows. I'm keen to find out. We're paying a reasonably large contract to get him, but we certainly spent very little draft capital compared to his established talent.

Well it’s something the clubs agree to as part of the trade, it probably won’t ever be publicly confirmed what the exact terms are by either club so you won’t ever see something offical one way or the other. Up to you who you want to believe in the media as it will be speculated about to no end and certainly some would have legit sources. All we have officially is Pies saying they would pay upto 300k per year prior to the trade period but who know what stings came with that and if we used that as just a starting point.

Second thoughts

Do we know what contribution Pies are actually making to his contract. One report is saying we are only getting $150k a year leaving us with $850k. Surely that is wrong and rumoured $300k per year is closer to the mark.

A so called in the know Collingwood person on Bigfooty said Collingwood were paying $150k and Grundy was taking a $100k pay cut, no idea if true or not

Yes, but Gawn is older and more banged up and the FD obviously would like him to be FF and the the back up to a superior ruck, so he isn’t forced back in there when we are struggling. 

Gawn as a forward has its pros and cons, but, injuries aside, Grundy should be able to provide more than Jackson did of course.

I just hope this means Max can have devastating effect when he pinch hits in the ruck against tired opposition ruckmen. Well I hope this is still in the plan because making him a permenent forward concerns me. 

I do wonder if we'll be having Max ruck for the forward 50 and Grundy everywhere else? Time will tell, interested to see how it works.

We follow a unique sport where teams train in preparation for just about as long as the season itself. The game is also constantly shifting with new tactics and fresh counter-tactics. Geelong won the flag by evolving in the off-season. With such small margins of difference as to equalisation., I genuinely don't think there's much that can be done once the race is underway. 

Grundy rucks around the ground. Max stays a kick behind the play. Takes the opportunity to float forward if presented. Try manning up on that.

In a lot of ways, Grundy is a fully realised Jackson.

Both have basketball backgrounds and can play as an extra midfielder. While Jackson is more agile and has that Nic Nat style x factor, Grundy is a better mark, better tap ruckman and a probably a better forward. 

Jackson also did not have the tank and ability to play full ruck duties while Grundy does. Very easy to see how Grundy slots into our game plan.

I might have missed it, but what is the Pies rationale for trading Grundy?

Do the pies think he doesn't suit how they want to play or is it as simple as wanting to get his salary off the books?

Do we know how much are we paying him?

I've heard that Collingwood is not paying much, on the other hand it looks like Grundy himself took a pay cut?

I believe it is mainly a salary dump scenario

Strawbs was a bloody good ruck man.

Very underrated - perhaps because he looked a little ungainly.

But in many ways he was ahead of his time - like Maxy, very tall but super athletic.

And smart - he had the knack of all really good footballers - he got to the right spots
