Our midfield depth is a media myth

We're too light for rotations (assuming brayshaw never plays in the guts again)

Our second tier mids in Sparrow and Harmes are among the worst in the compย

Rate Jordon but he's a utility sort you can put anywhere and is unlikely to be a starting centebounce midfielderย

Credit to Sparrow for a really good bounce back game but if our big 4 don't stand up we are absolutely rooted

Need another good mid as much as we do a forwardย

Yep you can see why they were keen on Cerra

Surely with gw$ having a fire sale we can get a good midfielder to add to our rotation

Played 2 good quarters and then went missing in the 2nd half.

He had 5 disposals for the last two quarters. Still not doing enough for me.

I remain highly sceptical on him long-term but thought he was as good as he could be considering the lesser influence of Trac and Clarry

I definitely thought he had a better first half but that surprises me.

Does anybody find it interesting that Bailey Smith still hasnโ€™t signed at the Dogs yet? ย
There might be more to come out on this. ย I canโ€™t see him leaving but there are a few whispers about. ย

On talent alone, I'd chase him big time. But given his transgressions and battles with mental health, I'd be cautious. Plus he's not a free agent, so he wouldn't come cheap trade wise.ย

The Dogs have re-signed everyone else of note. If they're prepared to take on Lobb's $750k, then their cap would be tight. Maybe Smith will fall through the cracks, but I can't see it happening.

It is interesting they havenโ€™t signed yet. ย Just hearing a few clubs are sniffing around but as I said nothing clear at this point.ย

Iโ€™m with you, I canโ€™t see it happening but it is interesting that it hasnโ€™t happened yet. ย I thought he would have been the number 1 signatureย

This is one of those questions I've posed on the "stats" thread. Sparrow only played 65% game time.

It would be great to know what his time on ground was in the 2nd half. So when you say he went missing, maybe he really was. I don't know the answer to that but I would love it if someone did.

Would you look at Matt Crouch as a possible replacement for Brayshaw? Wonโ€™t cost us much in trade and cap. I must say I donโ€™t know much about him these days but remember he was supposed to be pretty good. Would have a relationship with Lever, is 27 so could be of service for a few years.ย
ย

But Iโ€™m worried heโ€™s been blacklisted by the Crows. Does anyone know the backstory here?

ย

Also what would you give Richmond for Noah Balta? They will go into rebuild mode soon so they could do with some draft picks. I think he would be a massive upgrade on LJ.ย

Crouch, Viney, Sparrow, Harmes in the same midfield would be the stuff of nightmares

Balta would be considered untouchable by Richmondย

We already have Dunstan on the list, and have been reluctant to play him even when there have been clear opportunities to do so. I don't think we need Crouch as well, but we definitely need to add some quality young midfielders to the list.

Zero chance Balta leaves Richmond.

I donโ€™t mind the idea of picking up Matt crouch for depth given he would cost a packet of skittles.ย

Would make Casey even stronger, with Crouch and Dunstan in the middle.

Seriously though, Crows want him and his contract out of the club,

He could go for a pick 40-50 just to move him on.

Exactly and weโ€™d appeal because of lever connection and in premiership window. Short term bargain contract that significantly improves our depth.

I had Matt Crouch in my Fantasy team earlier in the year, so I took notice of him. He's so slow that he can only play as an inside mid. But he's not a good contested ball winner. When he does win contested ball, his only option was a short handball. His stat line usually read 4 kicks 21 handballs. And he's not a creative handballer like Oliver. In open play he would get caught holding the ball far too often.

Matt Crouch was a good footballer pre injuries. He's now a poor man's Luke Dunstan.

Might cost bugger all in picks,ย  but he will still want to get paid some coin.ย  He woukd be on a bit contract at the crows for next yr and no club is gonna pay that.ย  So he woukd be on 700+ next yr then looking at half that.

Fine if we can get him cheap as chips,ย  but we can't have alot of money to spend now.

No defensive run and no impact with his disposals. The crows already have 2 low impact rack them up types in Keays and Laird. And they run. Theyโ€™re playing the kids to get defensive impact (Berry) and other young guys who can provide skills. Given they canโ€™t seem to โ€˜fixโ€™ Crouchโ€™s game style theyโ€™ve pretty much put a line through him.

Crouch could only get a 2 year deal in free agency last year. He makes sense for a team like Geelong to replace Selwood and Dangerfield. We donโ€™t need a second Dunstan.ย

Balta is 22. The tigers arenโ€™t going to trade a 22 year old for picks unless itโ€™s a crazy offer.

Heโ€™s also not an upgrade on LJ in the forward/ruck role. Heโ€™s played a big chunk of the year as a forward and hasnโ€™t kicked multiple goals since round 3. Obviously Jackoโ€™s not lighting it up forward either but he makes far more of an impact in the ruck and has his moments as a tall target.

Heโ€™s a key defender getting a run as a forward because Grimes, Tarrant, Broad and often Gibcus are down back.ย

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
