I understand what you are saying and you make good points but our premiership window is now and bringing in a 28 year old player like Grundy at the right price would be a good investment. My point from back in August was that if the bulk of his contract has already been paid and he is only receiving $600 - $700k a year going forward then the club might consider taking over his full contract if Collingwood handed over their first / second round pick. Its pure conjecture. We don't know the structure of his contract. I would be surprised if its linear. Perhaps it is backended, in which case Collingwood has a problem.

I wish the dees could have a perpetual premiership window like the Cats seem to have...that would be nice!!

Grundy is not on $600-$700 a year going forward, and if he was, Collingwood isn't handing over a pick for us to take on his contract.

And I don't see how Grundy makes us better. The 4 remaining teams in the finals have got there with either a 2nd string or a journeyman ruckman. Having a dominant ruckman isn't a prerequisite for success.

Melksham is not the match winner in our team, he is a role player

I don't disagree Demons11, but if people (not saying you) are going to go on and on about how ANB and Spargo never get enough of the footy or goals then it seems strange that Melksham can hardly touch it and get a pass. Yes he did a reasonable job in this game but with his skill and experience level it would have been nice to see some more involvement. We play such a system based game in the first place it's a big sacrifice to take guys out of the system to soley play negating roles.

That's just my view on it, they may have been very happy with what he did though.

Fremantle football boss Peter Bell on Rory Lobb  "We informed him that due to his contracted status and the importance he for our structure that we wouldn't be able to facilitate a trade for Rory."

Youve seriously got to live Peter Bell don't you. He's going to spend maybe $900,000 and sell the house to get Jackson who plays Lobb's role but he's not going to let Lobbe go. So he'll have to of them plus Sean Darcy one of the best rick's in the comp. Either he's playing very silly trade week games or good luck Freo.

They couldn't lose both Logue and Lobb.  They can keep Lobb because he is contracted.

If they had been fairer to and kept Logue they could let Lobb go.

However, Freo have their eyes on a North priority pick so figure that might be better than what they get from the Bulldogs for Lobb.  Having said that Bell doesn't strike me as an honest broker and plays hard ball more often than not..

Maybe the Jackson thing is personal for Bell a 20 year grudge, we took a No 1 pick player from Fremantle, young ruckman that could jump and play as an extra mid, that we could also have father sons prospects in the near future. White and Jackson pretty much same player 20 years apart

They have low-balled a few players so it is no wonder they want out.

and if you believe Colin Young,  Peter Bell told Rory Lobb at the end of the trade period last year that they would organise a trade for him this year and has now backtracked on that.  Interesting tactics

Who knows with Bell.

Young called him out last year for breaking the 'cone of silence' regarding Lobb's interest in going to GWS.  It does seem Freo have gone back on an 'agreement' last year.

If one believes Bell they couldn't let both Logue and Lobb to so are keeping Lobb who is under contract.  Interestingly, Young manages both Lobb and Logue.

Unless, Freo get lots of trade currency in via North I don't see how they can do the Jackson deal without trading Lobb to Bulldogs.  The Jackosn trade may drag on till the end of the trade period, for another month, if it gets tied up with the Lobb deal.  Sigh..

Bell's list management tactics seem very sus!

TBH, I wouldn't trust Colin Young. He was trying to get both Bobby Hill and Lobb to break their contracts last year.

I don't blame Bell for standing his ground. At the moment, everything is in the favour of the players/managers. Good to see a club stand it's ground.

Having said that, the Lobb trade is interesting. With the development of JUH and Sam Darcy, I reckon the Dogs have gone cold on Lobb, and are only interested if it's a salary dump. They've probably offered a token pick, which doesn't give Freo any reason to trade Lobb.

I think Freo's starting point for Jackson would be 2022 1st and 2023 1st, no doubt we want more, but Freo supporters on BF and probably Bell want something back.  I think it's going to end up close to that with garnish.

Their first round this year is 13, given they have a very talented young list and would also be getting Jackson no doubt they will be thinking that they will improve next year and therefore their pick will be further back.
Pick 13 and next years pick 13 is equal in points to pick 3 which we originally gave for Jackson. Considering he is still 20 and has a rising star and a premiership I would think the “garnish”would need to be pretty tasty.
I do agree with you though and think that those two picks will be a big part of the deal.

It has to be posturing.

Lobb has already bought a property in VIC and is moving interstate with his partner. He has requested a trade in consecutive years. He will move whether Freo like it or not, so it's up to Freo whether they'd like to get anything back for him in a trade. If Freo don't honour his request, he will simply claim mental health issues and walk. The mental health card, legitimate or not, can and will continue to be used by players to get out of poor situations.

The players have too much power these days.

I never said he was on $600 - $700 a year. We don't know, and neither do you. Back in August, all I was speculating on was the price MFC would pay to buy out Grundy's contract in order to acquire a high draft pick from Collingwood. I think we do have some leverage if the contract is back ended.

The argument that the four remaining teams don't have a second ruckman and therefore we are wrong having two elite ruckmen is silly. It was only last year that we won the premiership thanks to this point of difference. And it will be again when we have a fit and healthy list and a redefined forward structure.

We do know. If Grundy's contract was back ended, the Pies wouldn't have had to salary dump last year. Grundy's salary was the primary reason.

they've got the same issue that gw$ has, where they have about six or so players on close to $1m a season

Bell is playing his little game again and pushing up the price.

Hi All,

We are currently courting a contracted and uncontracted player both "A Grade" Key Forwards.

The uncontracted player is Jack Gunston. We are well and truly in the race despite some contrary media reports suggesting a move to Brisbane or retained by Hawthorn. I have been told we are odds on!  (that's better than 50% chance snowflakes not a certainty).

The contracted player has also been responsive with quiet discussions since July. I have no idea of the chance of success. If I say who it is this has the real chance of wrecking the good work our recruiters are doing and would undermine the chances of success.

Snowflakes, please refrain from abusing me...........I quite enjoy your D-Grade dibble, it's just super boring reading for the rest of DL.  If you don't want to hear what I have to say BLOCK ME.

Happy about chasing Gunston, but I believe he's an uncontracted free agent mate.

Doesn't mean we're not chasing his signature though. Wouldn't be a bad option for our forward line for a year or two, would be a strong option who demands a decent defender for a bit before the likes of JVR and others take on more responsibility.
