Probably the same reason Tomlinson and Joel Smith were not selected as tall backs in the latter half of the season Our current highest ranked starting talls in D50 are Petty, May and Lever. I'd love to see us play Petty in the F50 next season probably replacing BBB - should that happen it would open up a spot for one of Turner, Tommo or J Smith I've watched a lot of Casey this year and IMO Turner has as much upside as JVR who many are touting as the next big thing. This is certainly not a criticism of JVR btw - both are very young, still learning and still building AFL level fitness and size Edited September 15, 2022 by Sydee 1 Quote
RedFox 536 Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 I keep reading about our need for a key fwd, the truth is theres no A grade ones that are available unless you attempt to entice the likes of a McKay way over market value to leave. Do we really want that? We would have to pay McKay over 1 mill per year to force him out of Carlton. So we go to the draft and grab Cadman, he won't be ready straight away. The only solution I can think of that makes sense is including a promising ruck/fwd in the Jackson deal such as Oscar Allen or Lobb. Other than that our salary cap won't allow us to make a 6 figure play at a superstar key fwd. 5 Quote

And players who fit that bill AND who are gettable right now are as rare as hen's teeth. We need a ready made replacement, no a draftee. Who else is even remotely available other than Lobb? Weideman? Just a stab in the dark. Quote

Lucifers Hero 40,709 Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Lobb will be 30 soon and has requested a trade to the Bulldogs for a 3 year approx $500k p.a. Freo are resisting a trade and aim to keep him to the one year left on a $700/$750K contract. Quote

Actually, both McKay's are out of contract in 2023, and both are also restricted free agents. What are they, twins or something? That would be a fun way to top up for stage two of 'operation neverending premiership glory'. I heard McKay is gettable this trade period. If there is even the slightest chance. I hope we explore all options. 1 1 1 Quote

Players move clubs for money, more games and 'success'. Not sure we can sell the first two and without either of those two, there is little chance of them sharing in our success. So in the short term I doubt we will lure many to the dees. Quote

Lobb’s a tease. He doesn’t like to ruck even though he could be special in that position. He wants to be the man up forward and hasn’t ever shown he is the man. He’d be a great fit if he committed to the fit. I have high hopes for Jacob being a solid performer but he projects a lot more like Brody Mihocek than a superstar to me. But I also think superstar key forwards are overrated. 2 key forwards who crash packs, lead hard, chase hard, tap the ball on and contribute at ground level can get the job done. 3 Quote

And the lions did miss out on Marc Murphy. It is just the luck of the draw and at least they will pay 80 cents in the dollar unlike the Cats for Ablett, Hawkins and Scarlett. 3 Quote
Demonstone 23,549 Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 You have to laugh at the way posters tie themselves up in knots about Brodie Grundy. "He's injury prone and fragile". (Facts show that he been remarkably durable with the exception of this year) "Yeah but his last two years were poor" (Facts show he finished top ten in the B & F in both years) "Yeah but those B & F placings mean nothing" (Facts show they are a great indication of performance) Which rabbit hole will the critics go down next, I wonder? And just for the record, I'm 50/50 on the merits of trading for Grundy. I trust our Club to make the best decision. 9 1 Quote

There are multiple factors that make a decision to get Grundy baffling. Most of these factors have been well articulated. B&F placings don't necessarily reflect the quality of performance. A player may finish high in the B&F purely because they played a majority of the games, and other key players missed chunks of the season. Finishing top 10 in a team that finished 17th is hardly a reflection of an outstanding season. Anyone who saw him play could see that his performance had fallen from his AA years. Quote

Harry McKay can't do it all on his own and Aiden Corr hasn't quite lived up to his role as the 2nd key defender. Tomo would be a great fit for them. A late second round or early third should be suitable value for a decent defender such as him. they're well into grif logue for this reason and he's better than tommo. ur not getting a second rounder for tommo unless its something like our second rounder for theirs and its a slide up rather than a flat pick. even lewis melican or alex keath or recently delisted hartigan probably has more trade likeliness than tommo. I was forgetting you guys were good mates, Goody. Let's keep him. Stuff the draft pool. Some of you people are just nasty. Purely and simply NASTY. Scroll to the top of this thread. See the title? And @A F… I’m not so much angry with you as I am disappointed. I really like your posts and almost always agree with you. But this? Really? You’re better than that.
