Confirming some news and giving the snowflakes enough opportunity to block me. I am hearing a bit of stir.  We certainly have targets outside of Grundy.  Grundy a cert.

I identify as a snowflake, but I also love a completely unsubstantiated and ridiculous rumour.

I’m so confused what to do!

Dokkas going to play hard ball to try and swindle the Dawgs for the Lobbster

I wonder what the appeal of the dogs is for Lobb given the surfeit of tall forwards they have.

The dees would be a much better fit

Yep it's strange

Darcy must be settling in defence long term

But even then that still leaves Broooce, Naughton & JUH (+ Lobb)

Is one parting ways that we don't know about?

I’m shocked they’re even looking at him. Surely the doggies should be going for key position defenders above everything else.

Exactly.

They are going nowhere without one, probably two gun big defenders.

I really like Keith, but he's not good enough to build a defence around.

You'd assume a big forward would go back. Naughton would be tbe obvious one, given he played down back as a junior. But does he want to? And they'd lose their best forward.

Darcy is not strong enough yet and Bruce will struggle to get in the team.

Maybe UH?

Lobb would be perfect for the dees, at least in terms of replacing Jackson.

Better forward, not as good Jackson in the ruck. But if Grundy comes in he won't need to do too much.

Lobb is pretty inconsistent, but when on he can really clunk them. And he us generally a really good kick for goal.

Find a way dees.

Freo have really [censored] the bed with this Jackson trade.

They are losing multiple good players who are best 22, that's unforgivable

Sounds as though they've lowballed a few players on salary. Not only are the expectations on Dogga massive due to his salary, but he may need to win a few team mates over. [censored] that's a lot of pressure on a young bloke.

Brown, TMAC, Lobb, JVR, Fritsch & Gawn/Grundy. The old plan of never taking a mark will now be replaced With the new plan of never dropping a mark.

(Joking, obviously)

He’s been linked to the Dogs for 3 months. We either aren’t keen, or he was firm on getting to the Dogs.

It is interesting to note how so many of these linked players are going exactly where the media said. Player managers obviously have loose lips.

Could Goody's close relationship with Melksham have muddied his judgement re the contract extension? Obviously it's not entirely up to Goodwin but I do wonder about this.

Yep, I reckon you're spot on.

I can just see our list management strategy meeting down at Rye.

Tim Lamb: So, do we keep Melksham everyone?

Jason Taylor: I think it might be time to go back to the well and see what we can get from draft instead.

Alan Richardson: I agree. Let's cut him.

Simon Goodwin: Hang on a second guys. I'm really good mates with Melky.

Tim Lamb: Oh yeah. You are too.

Alan Richardson: Good point. Maybe we keep him.

Jason Taylor: Yeah, fair enough. I was forgetting you guys were good mates, Goody. Let's keep him. Stuff the draft pool.

That's a bit harsh for mine.  No team has depth in every position on the field and we are no exception.  To make the cutoff at 195cm conveniently rules out JVR and Turner who are both promising young KPP.  Weid hasn't come on as hoped (but was a high pick) and Jackson has performed well beyond his years when compared with other ruck/forwards at the same age.

The reality is good players over 195cm are rare - the good ones generally get snapped up pretty high in the draft and a fair portion of them end up as busts anyway.

Turner has struggled at Casey and JVR can’t do it alone. 195cms is roughly KPP size these days so it’s an arbitrary measure.

Indeed a fair portion are busts. Which is why you need developing young talls as not all will make it but they’re crucial to success.

We have wasted space with Daw, M Brown etc and now have a real issue. With Jackson gone and M Brown certain to be delisted, we now have 4 players over 195cms. A hobbled B Brown, a 30 year old Gawn, a not going to make it Weid and Petty.

Compare that to the league leaders: Geelong has 8 ,  Collingwood have 10, lions have 10. Not all will make it of course but I don’t think it’s great lost management from us to have a glut of Bedford/Chandler/Laurie types all playing for Casey and no back up ruck or developing talls.

Interim opinion:

Darcy Tucker (Freo) - yes as a “French fries” addition in the Jackson trade. Should be cheap contract $

Josh Corbett (Suns) - like Jake Riccardi (Giants), any forward who is cheap but knows how to kick goals is a target. Should be cheap contract $

Brodie Grundy (Pies) - when did we ever trade to help the feral Pies or get a good player in a trade with the pies.  Never!! It’s a No from me. Injury prone. Fragile. Ruckman not a key forward. Spend our $$$ elsewhere please.

Just wait for it. GNF is thinking up a wonderful riddle right now that involves Naughton to Melbourne.

It would be a brave move to dismantle their strength which is their forward line. But hey, could be a genius move if UH lives up to his potential this year and Naughton plays as an all Australian back. I really rate Naughton so I don’t doubt if they made that move that could happen to be honest.

I actually agree about still trying for Lobb regardless of Grundy if it can somehow happen. He draws so much attention from oppo defenders, can take marks like you said and if Gawn or Grundy go down (not impossible given age and injury past) he’s more than a useful ruckman.

I’m probably dreaming but he, we can all dream.

can everyone stop mentioning tomlinson as potentially an outward trade please, like its just not realistic and not going to happen, also we would likely not grant it either, when one may/petty injury away from tomlinson playing 15-20 games in a season again. hes a required player

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
