Maybe an unpopular opinion but if a club offered overs (2nd round) for Bedford, I'd take it and run

Absolutely. But given the amount of games he's played, I'm thinking a pick in the 35-45 range.

Or a trade up with a couple of our thirds for the Dons 22 which is going to be taken up by Davey anyway.

Petty KPF, Weid KPB would be a free improvement worth trying over summer.

The Weed KPB isn't a bad idea!

I found it fascinating that the Swans could turn P McCartin into a very good KPB when he showed very little  previously at AFL level. Obviously, the concussions were a huge factor but that is incredible coaching! To have the foresight to do it and make the transition over only one pre-season is amazing.

I know the Weed hasn’t lived up to expectations, but he seems like a really good guy worth persevering with. Maybe as KPB or as second ruck. He has played that role well at Casey. (Btw, I met him at Chadstone last week and he was friendly and well mannered to a total stranger.)

Have just got back from a social event where I got talking to a very well known footy journalist. He didn’t give much away, other than Jackson is gone, providing Freo can find two first rounders. He believes Grundy will be at Melbourne next year, for a first round pick and a significant amount of his wage picked up by the Pies - said that Goody really rates Grundy and we’ll have the best ruck combination for the next 4-5 years.

He also said that they’ll work to get Kozzy signed up as a priority, but there’s no truth in the rumours  that he wants to go to an SA club: he has no allegiance in SA - probably the only place he would move to would be country WA, if they had a team! Apparently v happy with the set up at Melbourne, so should be reasonably straightforward.

He thought that the main reasons for the Dees falling short this year were injuries and perhaps the mental fatigue of trying to win a B2B.

On a more general note, he thought that this years trade period will be epic, with lots of names being thrown up for movement.

Nothing earth-shattering in what he said, but just thought I’d share it with my fellow Dees!

That is what everyone is wondering as well. The Dogs and Freos 1st won’t cut it as many have highlighted.

Spot on.

There is NO SUBSTANCE to this Pickett thing.

Kane Cornes said this on radio yesterday morning (Crunch Time). He threw it out there, Sam Edmund asked him to clarify, and he conceded he had no inside information but that the two SA clubs would love to have him.

In other words, he's made this up to start a fire.

Why would he do that, you ask?

Well, he's a Port Adelaide man. And he is a regular on Trade Radio, which stirs [censored] up on a daily basis to fill 8 hours of airwaves a day talking about pretty much every single player on every single list.

This is A-grade tripe.

And pathetic journalism by the likes of The Age by repeating it

Mate, if Jacko goes, which we’re hearing as of yesterday is still extremely likely, then Grundy will be a Demon.

There are a couple of others that I’ll let you know about as soon as it’s appropriate.

Is it an appropriate time now given that we are out of the finals?

The unanswered question is "What if Freo cannot produce 2 high first round draft picks". ? Does Jacko hang around for another 2 seasons?

They'll be able to, given they'll have half a dozen players potentially being traded. Will take some packaging of picks but reckon it gets done without too much fuss (famous last words).

You would imagine Freo trading a player plus a pick, gets Freo a better pick. Do that a few times and you have a few higher picks, that can then be bundled, to get even higher picks.

My concern is that if the deal is 2 reasonably high first round picks and we give one to the Pies, you are getting Grundy and one pick for Jacko and I wouldn't do that deal. If it was a player and a high pick, in addition to Grundy, that is somewhat better but still not great, as i think we could get Grundy for a much lower pick, or let him remain a Pie.

The best thing for us is that he will request a trade to us. We have all the bargaining power.

I don't like it. I think he is in our best 22 and he's playing through the midfield at VFL Level. His speed will give us a new dimension in the midfield if he and Kossie can go through the middle because we are one paced through the midfield.

Possibility of getting pick 8 with the Dunkley trade and pick 13 from Freo would be epic. Pick 13 for Grundy wouldn't sit well with me Collingwood must be paying nearly all of his salary.

I would rather trade our 2023 1st for Grundy, & back ourselves in to finish up high again

Would also fit with our pattern of trading out our future picks too

How much do we know about Grundy's contract? Was it rumoured to be a mil a year? What sort of back ending is in there, if any? If Pies are happy to cough up 300k,and we're all thinking that's from a mil, what happens if it's back ended and actually 1.3 mil a year?

Would not hesitate. Toby has some tricks, but in my opinion he is a rung below an accomplished senior footballer.

Mark Stevens mentioned on RSN now that Zac Williams from Carlton is on the trade table…

Was waiting for this one. Salary cap dump of the highest order. Huge mistake from the Blues, who thought he would be a mid for them.

Cant see any interest for him.

My two cents worth:

We have to refresh the list to some degree. Clearly we cant do too much, but we should be creative where we can. History shows teams cant stand still after winning a flag, we need new talent and new ideas.

Im ok with Grundy, i think the character he is, he will be determined to atone and show the footy world he has plenty to offer and the club wont risk him if he is shot injury wise.

There are players on the list that will go. M.Brown, Baker, Melksham, Bedford (trade) Daw (gone already) and Jackson (bye Luke, if you not with us, you against us)

So thats a good number of list spots to get new talent in. Jackson trade should get us 2 first rounders, Bedford, maybe a third? so we will have some capital in this draft. I think a lot of focus on fwds and rightly so, but id nearly take the best kick in the draft if available.

Also, i know this wont be popular, but i would dangle Christian Salem out to the market.. i think he is nearly done.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
