Gunston would make sense if we didn't have Fritsch.

But we do.

And if people think Gunston would replace Brown or T Mac, they're kidding themselves. Because the bulk of his goals come from marks on leads. And we simply don't have the midfield to provide that. I know that's Ben Brown's wheelhouse as well, but his advantage is his height at 200cm and arm reach to bring ball to ground. Gunston can't do that. Imagine having Fritsch, Gunston and Ben Brown all playing. The ball would be run out of our 50 before you could blink.

The only way I see it happening is of Goodwin made a complete overhaul of the way we enter our forward 50 and adds players with skill through the midfield as well as on the half forwardline.

But I also don't see that happening.

Where has all this Naughton talk come from? Is it just wishful thinking or was there rumors in media or on footy forums? He would compliment our forward line perfectly with his size and aerial ability. If we could turn Jackson into Naughton it would be the biggest coup in recent memory!

Hallelujah.  Maybe like many he thinks Beverage is a weird grumpy old man.

Contracted Adelaide defender Fischer McAsey has been touted to join Carlton at season's end, with the Blues looking to bolster their key defensive stocks.

McAsey, an East Brighton product, is currently signed to the Crows until the end of next year after turning his back on reported interest from Victorian clubs early into last season to re-sign on a two-year deal.

Keen suitors in the 21-year-old would be tempted to ask the question of McAsey given his current placing in Matthew Nicks' pecking order, having not featured at senior level since 2020.

Pick 6 in 2019 and at 198cm.  Must be a real bust if he cant get a game with the Crows

With that height and presumably a few pre-seasons, wouldnt be the worst thing we could look at. Were we ever into him last year?

Just read news clip from leigh Montagna about st kilda trading out some older players to reset their list.

maybe we could be interested in a few players ie Tim Membrey, Jack Billings or jade Gresham for our forward line

Membrey maybe fills a need. They will keep Gresham. They have a lot of meh players

Membrey and Weed will form a very potent forward line at Casey - no doubt about that.

Sloppy headline on the SEN website today. I'm sure SEN would love it if every player in the competition were to be linked to a trade. It could be talked about endlessly. But the headline is not quite what it seems.

Fancy staff at Craig Hutchison managed SEN being unable to read and write.

They'll get good service with Brody Grundy in the ruck.

We could build a dynasty at Casey with some of those names.

I read a headline this morning: "St. Kilda Should Trade Stars". Almost choked on me cornies.

you'd think, considering that their only genuine star is their captain, that there's not gonna be any stars on the trading block

I'd take Membrey in a heartbeat. Good finisher and hard worker. Would fit our system perfectly.

They are the the epitome of a club with either crucial key pieces or deadweight. No trade bait.

If (when) Jackson leaves, I'd be keen on Rowan Marshall.  However, he's recently re-signed for a few more years.

After watching our game vs Richmond on Anzac Eve, I'm convinced Max King would fit right in.

And what about our Collingwood game? 😉

Talked to someone I believe today, and they said a few interesting things, coming from a Pies perspective. Firstly, they didn’t think Dogga was that good. Said he was ok. Secondly, they thought Grundy would be worth at least a 1st rounder, mostly because of the salary he is on. Also said if Dogga was worth 2 1sts and I was saying I didn’t think Grundy was worth one 1st, that wasn’t realistic. I talked about it being a salary dump & he agreed the Pies would be paying $ for him to move (& he grumbled about Treloar). But he still remained firm about the 1st rounder. Hopefully he is wrong, wouldn’t want to give up a first for Grundy!

I don't believe Grundys trade value is in any way connected to his salary, when a club is offering to pay 1/3 of his salary for 5 years they can't demand much in a trade, essentially we're doing them a favor.

they need Grundy to go to sign their other targets and re-shape the list the way Fly wants, i reckon a second rounder gets it done

if we end up with two firsts for dog, plus extras, i can completely understand one of them being moved for grundy

I made the same argument about a second rounder, but he wasn’t having any of it. He did mention wanting the money to go after one of the GWS mids though, can’t remember who it was though

That was exactly what he was saying from the Pies end

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
