I know we are all meant to take it easy on the umpires, so to keep it fair, I will just say they were pathetic. They somehow contrived to give Carlton frees that were not there and at the same time, deny the Saints frees that were there.

Back to the country league for theseย  three.

Or maybe...should've gone to Spec Savers!?

Hill and Paddy make Stk a far better side, and maggots make Blues a better side but this is cancelled out by brain fades..

Blues lost on the scoreboard, but won 21 - 9 on the free kick count.

Despite that, the booing by their fans was outta control.ย

Always brilliant to see Carlton lose.

McKay is a deadset muppet. Kick a drop punt, you joker.

Carlton 12+ on the free kick count. Won't see a more one sided umpiring display than that.

Carlton are still an ordinary defensive transition team. If their mids aren't on top, they leak goals. (yes, I know they were missing key talls)

Hill vs Walsh was interesting. Hill killed them, Walsh ineffective. They gambled on each other. If you make Hill accountable, you can really exploit him defensively the other way. Terrible coaching from Voss.

There's no way our half forwards would let Sinclair, Hill and Wanganeen run around like that. Just about every time St Kilda had a stationary ball at half back, one of those three guys would run around the back of the kicker and handball receive. The good sides don't allow that.ย

Anyway, excellent result. I still harbour a small hope that Carlton miss the finals altogether.

Carlton are the HQ and media hype team. The umpiring advantage they get is to be expected. Vince McMahon has more integrity.

I sent my sister who is a fanatical Carlton supporter a text in the last quarter saying the umps doing everything they can to get Carlton over the line. Her response OMG are you f______ kidding me. I love my sister but boy itโ€™s so easy to hate that club. They could well pass Essendon as my most hated club in the next couple of years if they actually win a premiership.ย

Totally agree...and Brian says you know this is one of our very best Umpires adjudicating. Sadly doesn't know inches from yards..

I recall us playing WC in Perth some years ago, where in the first half the frees were about 20 nil their way, then we got our only free in the first half, a few seconds before half time. It didnโ€™t improve in the 2nd half.

We have had shocking runs against the Dogs, Pies and Blues several times.ย

Yep and when we finally did get the free, half the muppets in the mainly Eagles supporting crowd booed the umpire who paid the decision.

And donโ€™t expect much better from the umpires today before the parochial Crows fans today.

I counted at least 3 frees to Curnow and McKay for 'holding', near or inside the 50m mark.ย  In each case they were holding each other.ย  One to Curnow was really late in the game and had he goaled Carlton would have lead.ย

Curnow and McKay have learnt to hold/lock arms with their defender and then go to run forward without letting go and it looks like they are being held.ย ย

Blues now only 9 behind Bulldogs on the 'Free Kick Ladder'!

Yes - Iโ€™ve noticed and it sucks in the umpires often.ย

This is crazy talk! Heat of the moment, Ang. Take a deep breath and think about what youโ€™ve just said. Itโ€™s ESSENDON!!!

Gotta feel for the umpires here. Theyโ€™ve done everything they could do, but it just wasnโ€™t quite enough.

Managed to get every emoji bar the face palm, well done.

Lol. Your probably right but Carlton are your second team.ย

The amount of 10 - 12 meter kicks that were allowed as marks was astoundingly poor judgement from too many of the officials tonight.ย  If they got a third wrong i would understand.ย  Had to be at least half this evening.

Then in the last quarter they called a 20-metre kick in the Saints backline "not 15".

Sometime they'll end up putting a grid on the field to help adjudicate it because the umpires' estimations are so bad. The goalposts are 7m apart, so it's only twice that plus a metre.

And there were several 'marks' paid to Carlton where the commentators said the ball hadn't travelled 10m let alone 15!ย  Helped change the momentum toward Carlton.

Thankfully, the Saints just kept going and fighting then prevailed, regardless.

Nearly 50 years after Australia went metric, I would be most surprised if umpires in their 20's and 30's were still operating in Imperial measurements.ย ๐Ÿ˜•

Just watched the last qtr of the Saints game and besides the crazy free's to Carlscum their fans vacated their seats faster thanย  deckchairs on the Titanic. Their booing is second only to Westcoast fans. Ignorant nuff nuff's.

Ominous start from the Swans

Was hoping they would lose today. Their record is very good at the G would prefer them to finish as low as possible so we're less likely to end up playing them there

Swannettes will finish top 4, barring injuriesย

Will be a very tough September opponentย

Even if they did they would be way out.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
