Lions have played at the MCG 21 times since the end of 2008 for 2 wins. The last win was v Coll in 2014.

They have lost the last 9 games there.

Let's smash em Dees

Interesting stat. But they were terrible for many of those years

doubt they have played the G much in the past 4 years since they’ve been good

Disappointed Hunt didn’t come back in. He’s been our second best lock down defender this season behind May, and the best for smalls due to pace and agility. Would’ve been handy tonight.

Our current backline with Salem, Gus and Bowey for smalls is not working defensively or offensively. We’re 17th for scoring from back half, so that half back dynamic needs to change. Need Hunt or Rivers back in, Bowey out, and Gus shifted further up the ground to fix the balance and get us back to something closer to hat worked last year.

Lions haven’t played at the MCG since early 2020. They’re a more mature team now. Tonight is a 50/50 game with big ramifications for both teams fortunes in 2022.

Hope we shut down Cameron early. He seems to get off the chain regularly against us

Not sure who the matchup is either. Hunt would have been a decent match up. We saw what he did to Joel Smith last year but don't mind that much up. He is to quick for Hibberd, to good in the air for bowey . Guess that leaves Salem or Brayshaw but they will just drag either to the square and take away our best half back distributers.

Last few weeks has seen the re-emergence of a new more virulent strain of MFCSS virus on Demonworld. Apparently it is that infectious it can be readily transmitted on-line.

Symptoms include;  Wild, unsubstantiated posts condemning players, coaches, former recruitment staff and ex-presidents. Outbursts of spiteful, 'ungentlemanly' behaviour between some posters. Rampant unbridled pessimism or overly optimistic optimism and increased propensity for gambling and consumption of alcohol.

Will the site administrators declare a pandemic if the boys post-bye go down to the lions?

Hibberd will go to Cameron. I back him to do a job on him

Hope so, we have given up too many out the back goals the last few weeks and Hibberd and the defence will need to be better set up to ensure we don't give up too many this way as Cameron is way quicker then anyone in our defence

I thought Salem was looking more settled in his second game back last week and Brown showed some improvement with four scoring shots. With May back in to settle the defence the two big question become can we solve our scoring woes and find a way to kick a winning score and do Weideman and Jackson work as a ruck duo?

Win

That was our post bye form line last season, so my expectations are somewhat tempered.  I'd love to know what this 9 day break has looked like in regards to loading.  Part of me suspects the combination of the shorter break and the keeness to get a win against the team who most consider our biggest threat will have the team looking totally different to what we have seen the last 5 games.  I think there will be some flatness and sub par performances to come in July, but I have a sneaky suspicion we'll have a strong win tonight.

Good teams with aspirations to be great, or even a dynasty team, don't lose 4 games in a row.  Especially at their home ground.

They need to find a way to get it done tonight.  Much will be revealed.

Totally see where you're coming from.

However, on the flip side a lot of people love Thursday night games (especially for something to watch on TV) and can't see a reason why they're not on weekly.

I still remember Gerard Healy on radio last year complaining when Thursday night games were not being scheduled by saying, "Thursday night games should be on every day of the week". It was a humorous, although I think unintentional, way to emphasise his view.

Richmond 2017 did.

A true sliding doors moment, apart from a forward half connection issue (a big issue) and the loss of the best Captain Melbourne has had in 50+ years, so much about the team is humming, head space is good, some competition best performers, and really prepared to work hard. Yet all of this will be for naught if we don’t salute today. I was taken by how the neutrals remain overwhelmingly positive about Melbourne yet we are not. Rumors of our demise are overstated. Dee’s by 24.

Yes they did and interestingly I think they held leads in the first half of each then lost second halves - sounds a bit familiar

Irrespective our team needs to make a statement tonight we have an incredibly tough draw and must finish top 4 to be a genuine chance of a Cup

Was looking at the national TV ratings for AFL.

Thursday night almost equal to Friday night at just over 900k. On Saturday night ratings drop to mid 600k.

You can see why we have Thursday night games

I'm just having a quiet sip at the RACV club.

No trains on the Scumbury line so I travelled in the farm ute, complete with the dog box but sans canines.

I expect to see a win tonight. Max is of course irreplaceable,  but I reckon we're going back to back and will find a way. Someone will need to slot a lazy four though.

Had a wonderful week at The Manor - I purchased a new toy and it's exceeded my expectations. ( Dirty minds should not jump to conclusions - Uncle Bitter has reformed)

The toy is a drone and I've used it to dive bomb the neighbour's fowls. I expect egg production will be down. Delightful entertainment!

So they were a dynasty team during the season of 2017 even before they'd won their first flag since 1980 ?

We have different views of what defines the term ''dynasty''.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
