What's the operational definition of 'careless'? or 'reckless'?

'Reckless' no longer exists.  It is 'careless' or 'deliberate'.

Scott went on and on about what a good guy Stewart is and not once did he say "we all hope Prestia is ok".

Shows you exactly what kind of club Geelong is. Putrid.

You want to see remorse? Have a look at Chandler's reaction to his tackle. He was almost in tears and he reached out to the opponent to check he was ok. That is true remorse for a far less intentional act!

A good example of remorse is when Aaron vdb accidently collided with Mihocek.  He texted him to check he was ok.  Then sent a personal apology note and a bottle of wine to Mihocek's partner.

Stewart's and his club's reaction has been selfish and totally self-serving.  Even the 'mea culpa' and 'I'll pay the price' comments were self-serving:  I made a mistake.  But where is the apology!  Prestia's family must have been beside themselves.  Seeing him contorted on the ground was a sickening sight.

That no-one from the club has come out and shown care for Prestia is disgraceful.

They said last night on the news that Stewart is friends with Jack Riewoldt, got Prestia’s number from him, and called Dion to apologise and check in on him on Saturday night.

Thank you.  I take back that part of what I said.

Part of me still feels feel Geelong could have shown more public concern about Prestia's welfare given how vocal they have been about defending Stewart.

I wouldnt mind having a look at Tarryn Thomas if he wants to leave North at seasons end, looks a dejected player atm.

It seems to me that in big games, a player often gets hurt against Geelong. May had a busted face but Hawkins has clipped many without sanction. "Just clumsy"...  IIRC it happens in 1st or 2nd quarters as well. Most teams play fair nowadays and dont go looking for physical pressure. I think its the coach who creates the flavour on these things as opposed to direct instruction. But then I think the same about the Bulldogs and seeking Free kicks. We are lucky to have Goody. We have Good on our side. :)

And the umpires call for it. Isn’t dropping of the knees and lifting the arm should be called play on?
Mim positive that dropping of the knees is considered the same as ducking?

Doing that and shaping a GF would be the worst thing to happen to the game.Imagine Carlton Collingwood or Carlton Footscray playing in a GF with the number of fall guys they have..

I suspect the current norf coach will be gone before his contract expires at the end of 2024.

I know Chris Scott isn't popular in these parts but I didn't mind his defence of Stewart. He didn't condone the action and he was expressing how Tom knew instantly it was an awful act.

Glad to hear Stewart has apologised because it was necessary.

Totally get the anger, I just think sometimes if an incident is so out of character that no-one is going to be harder on that person than themself.

Nice of Scott to defend Stewart.  To me it sounded like a well orchestrated 'he is such a good fella' PR campaign.

I would normally agree about 'an accident'.  It was no accident.  Stewart may not have intended to hit him where he did and send him for six but the action was as deliberate as it gets.  An earlier post:

Scott says it wasn't deliberate.  I don't think he intended to hurt but the action looked deliberate to me:

  • they were a long way from the ball.
  • Stewart at no time looked at or veered toward the ball.
  • Made a beeline for Prestia.
  • Didn't break stride
  • Elected to bump (there wasn't even an option to tackle as they were so far from the ball and Prestia hadn't had possession)

At a human level it was sickening to see Prestia's body so contorted when he tried to move and his face so dazed.

Prestia's feet hadn't landed on the ground.  He was total exposed.  Stewart didn't slow down or try to avoid contact.  He wasn't bracing.

The point where Stewart hit Prestia appeared close to where Phil Hughes was hit (on the neck).  Given Prestia's prone body it was no ordinary hit.  If the Tribunal gives any thought 'potential to do damage' they need to make a statement regardless of who it is.

Regardless, of the MRO classification it was highly dangerous.

The grading means Stewart will be suspended for at least three weeks. Is that correct? It’s just very hard to understand how they operate sometimes .

Does having a full genetic match between a coach and a AFL operations manager have any influence?  Just asking.

Don’t know about that mono, I was talking about the MRO inconsistencies and they’ve been on show well before B Scott was appointed to his new role.

I heard Noble say in the post match that Tarryn’s Nan died during the week and he wanted to play for her, but found it really difficult to focus during the game. He flew back to his family after the match instead of back to Melbourne.

I kind of find Demon supporters piling onto North a bit confusing. They are essentially us circa 2012-13. We turned out ok.

scott said stewart said he "decided to bump"

so the bump was intentional (deliberate) but the high hit was accidental (supposedly)

in my understanding of the mro that makes it intentional (and stewart has admitted such to scott)

Look I can definitely do without the over blown "He's a good guy butter wouldn't melt in his mouth" stuff, maybe the less said from Scott the better, he did labour the point a bit.

When the adrenalin is up and there are split seconds to make decisions then control is diminished. I'm not in any way making excuses for the act, he's clearly run past the ball and connected with a player in mid air. He'll get his right whack and should be punished to the full extent, 4 x weeks minimum in my view.

I don't want to see coaches turn on players in these moments though, that won't help anyone.

Scott's talk is mainly around beating down the penalty. Hoping for divine intervention. So on and so on.Our whole relevance should be with an eye to how would we handle Oliver out like that. Not happy AFL

Stamp this sh%$ out, on notice..

he and luke davies-uniake are two highly rated players who look like they're a) hating their footballing life and b) played completely out of position currently

would not be opposed to kicking the tyres on either...

If we snaffled both of them, that would be a very Goodyear.

We would need to run both pasta good sports psychologist to see why they have not been up to scratch.  Discontent with their current environment vs general indifference or apathy.

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
