CHANGES: Rd 15 vs Brisbane

So I don't think there is anything wrong with our fitness, we have been hunted and are showing battle damage, respect to the playing group who give so much and work so hard, super proud of this team but they are not Marvel characters (Gawn might be). i really think a shake up could be good positionally

I like the idea of Brayshaw as a mid, Rivers back and Petracca forward. I also want Kozzie rotating through the middle, maybe swapping with Viney (who prior to injury was averaging a goal a game)

Hibbered and Salem will be better for the run and in best news his calf did not blow up. leave both back, aiming for a settled six.

May in, Petty as sub, needs a rest use only in case of emergency.

Majak Daw in with instructions to be a very strong physical presence.

Drop BBB it has worked before. I would rather Gawn at FF than Brown right now just saying but I think Gawn is very touch and go.

Sparrow to play as a run with defender on one of Brisbane's playmakers

No Hunt thanks.

Harmes will be ok gets another go. likewise Langdon will do more.

M. Brown wanted to see what you could do, back to Casey and very sorry about it.

Gawn rested, Weid in to play ruck with Daw. We have won games with Gawn before, time for some adversity in the middle and enhance resilience.

Like the idea of Jackson fwd, footy department has mentioned it before.

Some coaching magic required for ANB and Spargo something NQR here but is fixable.

Anyway lots of ramblings something like this:

FB: Rivers May Hibbo

HB: Salem Lever Bowey

CTR: Langdon Oliver Jordon

HF: ANB Weid Petracca

FF: Spargo Jackson Fritsch

Foll: Daw Viney Brayshaw

Int: Harmes Sparrow Pickett Tomlinson

Emg Petty

Jordan has improved but he is too slow moving the ball forward. Rarely takes first option, then after waiting usually kicks it long down the line!

Thank god I’m not the only one that sees this. Completely kills momentum at times. He also consistently wanted to pass short to Spargo who would be hemmed near the boundary on the forward flank. Did my head in

Yep mentioned this in another thread.  Very frustrating and reminds me of 1980s style footy.  Needs to learn to roll & play on more often and keep a fast play moving at times.

While he defends stoutly and is very reliable the oppo & their coaches must love seeing the ball in his hands as they get to set up behind play and reset down field for the 50/50 offering them a good chance to rebound and attack once again.

Zorko's didn't look minor from where i was sitting.  Absolutely pinged it and grabbed high as well.  Could barely walk off the field.  Has to be a two to three week layoff surely?

In - Bedford, May

Out - Turner, M. Brown

I really want to see us try the smaller forward line. Bedford’s been pretty good when he’s been in. I don’t think Mitch Brown’s effort warrants another week in our 22. Weideman in I guess if Gawn is forced out.

Can we please have Tomlinson or Rivers as the medi-sub. Our three losses this year we’ve been caught out by a defender either being subbed out or off for an extended period. Knowing our luck this year we’ll lose another to concussion on Thursday week. Do we want Tomlinson or Chandler taking the vest off to replace a wounded defensive soldier? Tough call.

I'm going Tomo if it's a choice limited to these two.

Well drilled and experienced in playing 'the Melbourne way' and could (potentially) play either end of the field.  At a pinch you could even have Tomo cover Petty's role (and no im not saying he is necessarily capable either...just a short term stop gap) and send Petty forward if a key tall went down.

Is he slow because of his own decision making or is he slow because the next link in the chain just isn't there? (That's a genuine question - I'm not trying to defend Jordon, just to understand why.)

No good news Turner has a facial fracture and will miss a few, Max looking at 3-5 weeks with syndesmosis.

Weid has been groomed as the backup ruck so I see he and Jack having to bear the burden. remember how Pederson rose to the occasion when Max was last injured. The McDonald replacement has to come from Tomlinson or Petty or even Smith when he gets that ankle right. Who knows it may change the way we play and lower our eyes going into the forward line and no bomb the damn thing in.

Mitch Brown will surely be dropped, but with Dogga replacing Max and Weid effectively replacing Dogga, leaves us a forward down. Do they debut JVR? VFL form been great but premature to play, don’t want to stifle development.

Or do they play Majak? Or do they throw Petty forward and bring Tommo back??

arggghh tough week at selection. Depth will be tested!

Gawn out 3-5 So make that 6-7

Well it just has to be Majak doesn't it!!

In: Weideman, Van Rooyen, May, Dunstan

Out: Gawn, M Brown, Turner, Sparrow

Weideman comes in for Gawn to rotate in the ruck with Jackson. Weid to play the 2nd forward role up forward as well.

Van Rooyen to play more that Luke Jackson 3rd tall forward as Jackson will now be playing as the number 1 ruck and rotating off the bench when he needs a spell.

May for Turner.

Dunstan to replace Sparrow who's been awful the last few weeks. Time to reward form and give Dunstan a few games to try and cement his spot in the team.

I might get laughed out of the forum, but I’d like to see a different look in the middle. Maybe Brayshaw to be 2nd ruck, similar to Richmond with Shaun Grigg. Just get a contest and get to work on clearance.

Brayshaw and Dogga to swap forward/Ruck

Daw seems to be withdrawn from the Casey team every second week. Do the regular Casey watchers think he will be ready to go?

I have watched a fair bit of Casey this season - thought Daw could be used as a foil for Max but more to give the big fella a chop out to allow Max/LJ to spend more time in the F50

I'm concerned that he may not have the fitness to do enough minutes in the AFL - no idea why he wasn't good to go this week

Max going down couldn't have come at a worse time

We need to find someone who will compete physically in the air in the F50 its not Weid nor does it seem to BB

Brisbane I fear will dominate in the air

Carlton have done it semi effectively with Silvagni. But he's a bit taller and heavier and more of a swing player. Brayshaw is way too important to how we set up behind the ball.

Majak Daw was brought in for this specific reason.  Cover for Max.  He will play if fit imo

Love your creative thinking but there is zero chance of Gus playing in the ruck if you ask me

No, he shouldn't even be on our list, baffling that he is.

I won't laugh at it, but I'll certainly disagree.

IN: Weideman, van Rooyen, May, Rivers
OUT: Gawn, M.Brown, Turner, Sparrow

Rivers to HB, Gus to the wing, Jordon to Sparrow's role.
Jacko primary ruck, Weid backup and 3rd tall forward.

TBH, not the end of the world (although not great either obviously). Gives us a chance to get Gawn 100% right and have some different looks at out clearance setups; which have been poor this year IMO. Also means Weid can do some rucking which usually helps his involvement.

Plus, an excuse to bring in Man's Ruin, the mongrel.

Looks like it will have to be Jackson and Weid for the ruck. At least Weid will be forced to compete in the ruck.

Weid has to come in, which I think is a good opportunity for him (yes, another one), but it's a guaranteed extended stint where he'll need to ruck a bit which will keep him involved and maybe lift his confidence. Some of his troubles really do seem to stem from a fear that if he does not perform in any given week, he'll be dropped. Well, now he gets a good go at it. It'll help him find his feet (a confident, tall option up forward can only help us in the finals - especially one with his talent - and yes I know this is debated and doubted - but he does have talent, we've seen it, just not enough). And if it does not work out, I think we all know, very well, that it's likely to never work out. And that's also valuable. We're without Maxy now, so we may as well lift (we'll need to), and use this time to experiment a little, and learn. You never know that we might get out of this!

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
