Would've thought at least 2, for a Sub and an emergency, maybe another if anyone in doubt with niggles Chandler highly likely to be Melbourne medisub with Baker the next choice I would have thought. Normally you wouldn't name a key position player as medisub but I suppose Tommo's a posibility if the thinking is Petty might not get through the whole game. With TMac unavailable to go back during the game it increases the possibility of this option being pursued. Regardless, I think Tomlinson is unlikely to play today and they could also hold Weidemsn over as back-up for either of the Browns. So maybe only 1 plays today (probably Baker).

Actually Fritta is going ok and averaging just under 2.5 per game ATM. The problem is, he's not a key forward and, to enable his best, he needs BBB or Tmac or Weid or someone to be regularly threatening and draw the heat from him. 9

Could everyone get off Weideman's back. I'm over these gratuitous insults of various players. Some people I assume are very happy that Melbourne have lost 2 games because it gives them more of an opportunity to whinge about their pet-hated players without getting negative feedback. After tomorrow there are 9 rounds to go plus finals so plenty of time for the team & individual players to find some form. I agree Weideman's had multiple chances but we didn't get our best list together until Round 17 last year and didn't get on our winning run until Round 20. Weideman wasn't part of that but will highly likely get an opportunity with TMac's absence. I'm happy for any of Weidenam, vab Rooyen, Mitch or Ben Brown to be part of that side if their form & effort warrants it. 1 hour ago, Billy said: I just don’t think we can give games to a player so out of form. If Weidermans not the answer, surely we have other options with Gawn or Jackson spending more time deep forward Moore & Howe will hardly man up on Brown & Brown & will have an absolute field day intercepting marks all game Hope I’m wrong, but B Brown is so out of form it’s not funny There is a view that Gawn's presence last week caused issues for our forwards. Obviously his 3 goals were pretty important for us but personally I'd prefer to see him spending more time in defence where we clearly needed help last week, with the forwards kicking the goals. Whether the Browns are up to it remaims to be seen, but poor delivery & congestion didn't help. It wasn't just the talls. No-one seems to be arguing that the small forwards (who didn't hit the scoreboard either) should be dropped. 3 1
dimmy 1,308 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Suddenly Tmac has become important. For ages people on the forum's have criticised Tom for not getting enough kick, not puttingin, being a liability BUT suddenly when he is not their some are waking up to the fact he was an important cog in our Forward set. i.e 195cm, massive endurance, tean oriented and can kick goals when required . We just did not know what we were missing out on !!! 6 1
Billy 2,576 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 If Max didn’t go forward and kick 3 goals we would’ve kicked 6 because the other key forwards weren’t getting near it. You can’t keep saying we’ve got no one else, we are after all a premiership list May & Tmac are huge losses to our structure & Rivers is dropped that’s only 3 players out of our premiership side We have enough depth to drop players who are way out of form 1

Winning a premiership doesn't all of a sudden turn Kade Chandler or Toby Bedford into tall marking forwards. We all know where we stand with our tall forwards. B Brown and M Brown are playing but neither is in any sort of AFL-level form, TMac is injured, and Weideman is considered by the FD to be less deserving of a spot in the side than the Browns. There's no one else. Daw's not a forward. Joel Smith is injured but even if he wasn't, he's a defender now. Tomlinson's a defender. Last week we lost in no small part because of Sydney's intercept marking. We can't afford to go in small and be repeatedly out-marked in our forward line because of the way we move the ball (i.e. we focus on repeat entires and time in forward half, so even if we don't mark it it has to come to ground and become a stoppage). At the moment the FD is playing the two it thinks are least out of form. We have to back them in to get it done at AFL level, because we can't afford to send them all to Casey at once. 2 1

Over a number of years we have seen that the Weid is not a good AFL level player. With Tmac out there are only two alternatives i.e. both browns as tall forwards, we have to keep playing them there are no alternatives.

Oh and someone give Trac goal kicking lessons...he's no Chris Judd There’s a few that need goal kicking practice, Nibbler’s kicking for goal has been shocking and only recently costly. I would be up for BBB being asked to play more of the TMac, up the ground role and give Fritta some time one out in the forward 50. M Brown just needs to provide a genuine second target, someone that the Pies have to be accountable for. 1
buck_nekkid 6,103 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 What I would like to see in the forward 50: Not everyone pushing up so high all of the time - leave at least one player in the zone to offer a target. have four target zones - 20 out, 40 out (straight in front) and 30 out each side on a 45 degree angle. Instead of bombing it to 4 v 4 10 m out, spread to pre-designed leading zones ands give the kicker target options. Better pressure in our forward half - lock it in and win the territory battle 1 1
