Excuse #328

Incidentally, you say, “there’s literally no excuse for his behaviour.” You simply cannot say that as an undeniable fact. The only fact here is, YOU DON’T KNOW. YOU WEREN’T THERE.

What excuse is there for May, who was previously punished for drinking while injured, to be drinking while he was recovering from concussion? He is not 19. He is a leader of our club and he should know better. Doing it in public in front of his teammates is just extra silly.

He is a phenomenal footballer who we have missed dearly. The last two weeks he has been out through no fault of his own. This week he has cost the side through his own dumb actions. Really hard to justify for mine.

Edit: I completely agree that name calling is uncalled for BTW.

Very bloody disappointed in May. He is a leader at our club and has let the whole team and us supporters down (and it’s not the first time).

Hopefully he makes the changes he needs to do so this doesn’t happen again. He is too important to our team.  Now he will have 3 weeks off as we have the bye after the collywobbles game so hopefully he is raring to go after that.

Is the drinking whilst concussed really a thing though? He’s 8 days post concussion, he would’ve played on the Saturday a couple of years ago.

Getting drunk enough to fight a team mate - even with a 8 day break between games - is the real issue.

Our bye week being so short and possibly removing the chance for the boys to have a proper sess next week might be partly to blame here

I don’t know. I WASN’T THERE.

I’m by NO means justifying it. I just think knee-jerking in the form of name-calling is totes unwarranted and serves ZERO purpose.

Edit: just read your edit re the name-calling. Thank you for acknowledging.

What if he was at a table with Bowey, Rivers, Jackson, Kosi and I dunno Bedford.

How is it their responsibility to tell a player 10 years their senior, who is a leader of the club, to stop drinking?

Lets not drag other players into this without actually knowing who was there. I doubt he was sitting between Viney and Lever sinking beers.

New headline … optimistic view

“Steven May is taking 3 weeks off to fully recover from concussion protocols”. 🤣

“Dees want May to be fully recovered before the big clash with the Lions.”🤣

Just checking that you know that's satire and not Tom Browne's account... (You can never tell on Demonland)

Yeah fair point.

People will have their opinions with or without the facts, I really don’t care.

But after 2 losses and a lot of negativity around the team’s performance, it’s just so disappointing that May will not be playing next week. Such an important player to the team’s structure and toughness.

Bloody disappointing that’s all.

Just remember that what the MEDIA report and what actually happens are generally not the same.

Hope we get the facts but not holding my breath.

I'd rather he got suspended next week after knocking Ginivan in to Bay 13

So one match for drinking while on concussion protocol, nothing for punching Melksham 😀

The club was going to suspend May for 2 games for drinking under concussion protocols, but reduced it to one on learning that he’d actually landed one on Melksham.

Also, there was a recent Age article discussing research from Monash Uni, and it was suggested players should have a 28 day break from contact sport after a concussion. I just see Steven May as being at the forefront of medical science.

The "scuffle" consisted of "flicked gravy" and "May tipped over Melksham's chips"... 🤪

WTF

How? There was no other way punish him? None?

Pretty sure drinking is verboten and consequence is game ban. If you don't follow through, no-one takes it seriously and culture of high standards and selflessness starts to unravel.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
