Just a gut feel. Not sure why.

I was thinking the same thing, though I don’t know enough about Turner. Throwing a debutant into a Queens Birthday clash is fraught with danger, particularly given our history.

Turner has white line fever.  He ain't no shrinking violet.  He'll be fine if picked.

While he probably doesn't have the size yet to play big blocks of games at AFL level i reckon he will give a very good account of himself in short stints until he builds his frame & strength.  The bloke can play dw.

Could be because we have 1 key forward who hasn't scored for nearly a month, 1 who is currently on one leg, 1 who uses their seniors card for train tickets to get to the game, and 1 who the coach hates... Only logical ;)

People need to bear in mind Turner is not a green 18yo, he's 20 - that's 2 important years of physical and mental development.

Great young fella with plenty of upside  but from what ive seen live that would be a bad move for him & the team right at this moment Smokey

However only my amature opp.  Who knows he might get picked and kick the winning goal!

I think the match committee should consider playing Mitch Brown as a KPD.

Was more than serviceable as a defender during his time at Essendon, in particular during the replacement player period.

If Petty doesn't get up, I'd be putting Mitch Brown as a KPD and Weideman to come in as 2nd KPF.

Turner isn't ready IMO.

...and I would consider giving a spot to Melksham and just tell him to kick a few goals and see what happens..

Jack Watts says HI😬

Cannot compare. JW was #1 draft, and had had only a handful of VFL games.  Turner is in his ?third year.

The issue is finding players to cover the last line of defence for the one-on-one ply that comes in quick and with May out it was again a big problem.

Sadly Hunt blew his two key plays against Papley (2nd term) and Heeney (final term) and unfortunately that might spell the end for him at this level. Hibberd is the obvious inclusion for this role, especially as Rivers needs at least another week in the VFL developing in this area. I suspect Hibberd will get Ginnivan quite a bit.

Tomlinson also blew some key last line plays on Reid but with May out we don't have options. I don't imagine Petty will come up and if he doesn't then we'll need another tall to combat the Mihocek, Cox, Henry combo - I think McInnes will be out injured. I reckon it would be a big call to use Turner on Henry but it's definitely possible. The alternative is to send Mitch Brown or Reid back there and use Lever on Henry.

The other decision is up forward and whether we want to keep going with our three talls plus Fritter structure, or whether Ben Brown's lack of impact will make us consider sending Trac down there for a bit and just going with two talls - Jackson and Weid or Jackson and Mitch Brown - whichever one isn't sent down back to cover for Petty and May's absence.

Ultimately I think our guys all sensed the urgency against the Swans and it just didn't quite come off with the Goulden free huge. But if we have fixed up our forward set up and Tomlinson adjusts better to the tempo, then it should be happy days on Monday.

The development of JVRs game in the seniors for a few weeks/months might outweigh the marginally better output we get by adding in players without a future.

We can carry an underperforming Forward like Ben Brown because he has the highest ceiling, but there's no use carrying two. We may as well develop somebody  instead.

Which actually means absolutely nothing.  He has to debut sometime and he ain’t JW.

I'd like our midfield to stop wrestling with their opponents and focus on getting the pill

Did you watch No.8 on Clayton last week. Why are the umpires not watching what the opposition is doing to stop him contesting the ball. So I am not sure the wrestling is started by our midfield.

For all those who love to predict team changes I'll give you two specials. Tomlinson won't get dropped and Weid won't get selected.

I suspect you’re correct but Tomlinson is very lucky May and Smith aren’t available - if they were he’d be Casey bound based on last week’s performance

He is lucky but lets be fair first game back in about 14 months. If he's poor again this week then out he goes.

Actually to be fair he played rounds 1 through 4 this season so it hasn’t been 14 months - he was really poor last week and is very lucky if he holds his spot

I didn’t study Tomlinson’s game in depth last week but all of Sam Reid’s goals came in the first half, so he was able to do a reasonable job on him in the second half.

Or am I giving him too much credit?

Tomlinson played well in the early rounds of 2021 and 2022 as a key defender but May played in all those games.

You are correct but surely the club would not do it. Why tempt fate with such an obvious comparison..

I wouldn't be surprised if Hunt was dropped but I don't think the blame rests entirely on him

Without May in defence, we've been more disorganised. Tommo or Petty should've been there to drop off and support Hunt

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
