That hard tackle on Langdon when he was vulnerable and in no position to absorb its force did not have the potential to cause injury?

i think there is some confusion here between 2 issues

the rules around what is a reportable offence are based on potential to cause injury

the rules around the actual penalties seem to be based on outcome but not potential

.....mostly

Would be very surprised if Selectors named Melksham as the Medical Sub in his 200th game. Shouldn’t be done and won’t be done by a Club that is getting most decisions right.

Three things are certain in life: death, taxes and confusing Tribunal and MRP decisions.

Melksham will get his 200th this week, Goodwin likes to get those things happening and I reckon he puts the onus on them to perform or never play again.

We stick with the know quantities until we lose then the people who aren't quite performing will be rotated.

If we didn’t “nurse” Jones to a premiership then I don’t see why we would “nurse” Melk” to 200 games.

so why include him??

I have a feeling we won't risk Ed. Too important and no point playing him if he's in considerable pain.

Melksham will get his 200th instead.

It will be out Dunstan in Viney.

Bedford the sub yet again.

Really? REALLY??? Wtf is wrong with some people?! MELKSY PLAYS FOR US!!!! Save the vomit emoji for opposition players. There’s no shortage of them. Think every single Essendon player, for starters 🤮

Not a fan of the V emoji.  Often its use make me think the poster is under the influence, mis read the posting or selected the wrong emoji.  Would prefer a milder one to show disagreement.

I would prefer a pickle as in you are a dill pickle.

I think the vomit emoji has its place and purpose. But NEVER for one of our own players ffs. I’m over the disdain shown for Jake. I mean, I hated him with a passion when he played for “them” nothing personal, just comes with the territory. BUT… the nanosecond he pulled on a Melb guernsey that all changed. As it should. ❤️💙

The difficulty I have with the V emoji is that it isn't clear whether they object to my comment or to a quote I have included in the post.  I find it rather disconcerting at times.

Given that Goodwin said Langdon will be given right up to the game to be deemed ok, reckon he will be named in the selected team even if he is half a chance.  Then we wait.

I agree, and he will likely be a late out. But they won't give Melksham the emergency position for his 200th, so the real question is, who drops out?

Shock horror! ABC News Radio in Northern NSW this morning had massive news! The reigning premiers have Viney back in and Langdon recovered better than expected.

Beyond the good news I was shocked to have this on a station best known for soccer/rugby news.

We can always count on you WCW to bring some clarity to some of the comments on here. The vitriol against Melksham on here is similar to that was aimed at Jay Kennedy Harris some years ago. Everyone understands that Jake is not playing to the same level as he did a couple of years ago but does that mean he should be subjected to the spiteful comments that are being made by the same old landers. As I commented when Jay was being targeted that there are family members who read the "Land" and are mortified by what was/is being said. Maybe think before typing.

Now when it comes to Collingwood - go for your life🤣

The more analogous situation is our "nursing" Jones to his 300 game milestone early last year, after which excepting a couple of medi subs he barely played again. I'll be surprised if we see much more of Melksham after this weekend, though I'llalways have a soft spot for him for coming to us and playing great footy that simultaneously served an "F U" to Dons fans who derided him at the time of the trade and lit up our breakthrough 2018 campaign.

… and Essendon. We mustn’t forget Essendon. 😝

Thank you LSNM, nice to know someone else sees this for what it is. Vitriolic comments aimed at any of our players is nasty and serves no purpose whatsoever. Especially when it comes to Jake. He doesn’t get a fraction of the love the “shining lights” get. And that’s cool. If you’re not feeling it, you’re not feeling it. But to go to the other extreme is unacceptable!
PS: so glad I wasn’t on DL when the same treatment was being doled out to JKH. 😡

JKH got off lightly compared to a few other players.  I won't mention them for fear of setting off a retro whipping-boy frenzy.

The red and blue is sacrosanct imv.  Wear it and the player should be respected.

Thanks for calling it out WCW.

Milkshake always has a place in my heart for the sealer he kicked in the 2018 semi final v Hawthorn when I was just starting to get nervous. Sure he might not be best 22 for many of the reasons highlighted, but when he gets an opportunity and plays he invariably pops up and does something really good. I hope he plays, has a ripper 200th and is rightly celebrated for the body of his overall work.

Slightly contradicting there WCW. I will celebrate Milkshakes 86th game for MFC on the weekend. The games for the cheats mean nothing to me. BTW I think the vom emoji are either for the poster suggesting Melk gets dropped or the idea of the club nursing a player to a milestone.  I am one that think players should earn every game on merit, not gifted to them aside from exceptional circumstances (a club legend getting to 300 when the result does not matter)

I don't have a problem with Melk, although I am disappointed he hasn't played better footy during his peak/older years as he showed great potential early. He is still the best kick in the team as he can do it on both sides. Just doesn't get the ball enough or pressure enough

Tend to agree, provided he brings his best game and a real desire to pop a few through the big sticks. A little 200th game 'mongrel' would help his cause, as well. He has the experience to add to our team - not be carried by the team.

And that’s fine. That’s how you see it. But there’s critique and there’s criticism. Further breaking it down, there’s constructive criticism and there’s destructive criticism. And at the bottom of it all, there’s straight up malicious insults.

PS: re the second bolded bit above. I’m sure no one is as disappointed as he is. Some on here talk like he is deliberately not playing well.

PPS: Were you happy to count BBBs North games in his tally of 150?

PPS: I fail to see how I’m being contradictory. Feel free to enlighten me. 😃

I totally agree with regarding player abuse and destructive criticism. No place for it.

the only slight contradiction I was referring to was never abusing players and then stating your hatred for Essendon which is where Melk played most of his games. Tongue in cheek 😋

in general, game milestones mean a lot less to me when most of the games where played elsewhere. Might be just me

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
