Lucifers Hero 40,746 Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Parish set a record with the number of possessions. Will probably get high votes from both coaches (10 will go to the Akermanis clone). But gee Parish is a frustrating player; runs hard to get a possession but lopes around when it is time to chase. At the end of the first qtr yesterday he had 15 possessions with distance gained: 90 mtrs!!! Its circuit handball work for him. Talk about chasing Brownlow votes. 2 Quote

I'm always drawn to the hard runners who get to lots of contests so naturally I look at Parish's game as a decent one but he really didn't do much with it or hurt the opposition by foot. For a contested bull he had 15 contested possessions so it does seem like there were a lot of dippy dappy handball receives for him in his game. I'm a fan but he needs to evolve a bit with more effective kicks or a goal a game. Just something a bit extra than handball, handball, handball. 1 Quote

A few Essendon supporters rang SEN earlier this morning LH saying Parish was BOG by a mile which I don’t agree with. He only had 3 inside 50s from his 44 possessions, 30 in a half is a fair effort but I thought DeGoey was far more influential in the first half than Parish. dazzledavey36 56,370 Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 For someone like Darcy Parish to get 44 disposals in the game, he only had 310 metres gained. That's pretty poor and shows that his impact wasn't as significant as what Bomber supporters may tell you. Has no issues getting the ball but when you have zero hurt factor and happy to chase 15m dinky kicks then you're adding nothing to the team. 2 Quote
Demonland 74,467 Posted April 26, 2022 Author Posted April 26, 2022 I would love this kind of accuracy. Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Collingwood were lucky with their accuracy. Sure you make your own luck but anything over 75% accuracy is luck. They operated at 84% accuracy. A score of 13 goals 5 points is more towards the outer mean. On that score they win by one point. We operated at around 30% accuracy on the weekend 1 Quote

Good accuracy comes and goes and is generally reliable as Melbourne weather for all clubs. Quote
old dee 24,084 Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I see Grundy could out for 8-10 weeks for the pies. If so he will be paid approx $100k a game. Quote

Its not the role of inside contested players to get huge metres gained or i50's. Generally if they are 50/50 handball to kick then they are doing wonderful things. This is why Clarry's games on the weekend was so phenomenal. 41 touches, 22 contested and 600 odd metres gained with a half or so dozen of i50's. This is definitely what you want but is not the norm. I would look at this performance and say Clarry has exceeded expectations of his role on Sun night. Parish's game with 44 touches tells you he made it to lots of contests, probably had a high hb:kick ratio and probably contributed to his teams high CP numbers. Yes he did have a few cheap non-influential possessions but his objective is to get the ball into space for his team mates to have time to deliver an effective disposal. To me he did what he was asked to do to a very high level. Was it Clarryesque, probably not, but it was still a great performance. 1 1 Quote

Yeah for sure, it can become a throw away line to say "possesions don't matter it's what you do with them that counts." With Parish I just feel he needs to add a little extra, it's a real value driven game now and a midfielder like that needs something else to set him apart. I thought he played a good game though. Spot on. For an inside midfielder that racks up possessions, to be set apart, you need to have much more in your kit than handball to the outside. Otherwise you just end up like Macrae, Libba, Steele, Shuey etc. All very good players, but every team in every generation will have one. 1 Quote
