Unlikely, I would have thought, unless two of Lever, Petty and Hibberd return. We're playing Brayshaw as one of our back seven (which he's doing very well.) I expect we would prefer him on the wing, which would necessitate finding another spot for Jordon (medi-sub or replacement for Sparrow or even Spargo). In short, I think Hunt stays even if one defender returns. And by the time two of Lever, Petty and Hibberd are ready, Hunt may have got his mojo back.

As much as I called for Hunt to dropped during the heat of the game, I've have finally decided that perhaps a premiership possibly knows more than me so I'm keeping mom on changes from here on end. Truth be told there were a few that played below par. Just one of those nights.

Why?

Smith is playing his role down back perfectly fine. He has ability to play on medium to small forwards.

Our coaches don't make drastic positional changes unless it's a break glass emergency type. 

Don't be surprised to see Howes make his debut this week...

Let's not blame Hunt for being tripped by the suns player, coughing the ball up for an oppo goal. That's down to umpire incompetence.

And as much as I and many others would love to see Weideman succeed, I simply cant see ( at present) how he even cracks it for a game. The  guy needs the patience of Job to hang around the club.

Good to see Lever in those training pics, anyone got an inside word on his status? 

I'm hearing it's worse than expected and typically the club are being extremely ambiguous about it which annoys to no end. 

Same can be said for Petty. 4 week injury that turns into an 8 weeker and zero transparency as to why! 

Won’t happen but M Brown for Tmac would be worth a go. Tmac since the bye last year has been very quite and now we finally have a 2nds game which exposes form of those out to push in.

Hopefully Lever and Hibberd are fit to come back but if not we don’t need to rush this week, I prefer Tomlinson to Smith down back as a 3rd tall so smith goes out for Lever and obviously Hunt for Hibberd unless maybe Smith can play that role.

I believe he got pulled off at 3/4 time because he's likely going to debut this week.

To be honest on yesterday's performance alone you couldn't split Van Rooyen, Woewodin and Howes on the day

All 3 showed they are ready for AFL action if needed.

Van Rooyen for me would be my first pick personally because how physically ready he is and just thought his performance was a stand out from a position point of view.

The club is in bloody good hands with these kids coming through!

I’m not sure they are increasing in frequency, @Cards13. What used to be called a “high ankle sprain”, they were viewed from the outside like standard sprains, but took longer. It’s just how they’re reported now that makes them seem more common. Essentially it’s an injury to the ligament that holds the bones together (tibia/fibula) that form the ‘mortice’ grip for the talus (articulating bone of the ankle). Sometimes need surgery, but either way take longer to accommodate to weight-bearing. Impossible to prevent in Australian footy, whereas ‘stirrup-lock’ taping is a good prevention for standard sprains (lateral ligament or talo-fibular ligament). On the Petty injury, it seems likely his calf corky lead to an acute posterior compartment syndrome (bleeding into the connective tissue ‘bag’), which puts other tissues at risk. This would have been released - the ‘bag’ is slit - and thus needs time to heal, with care not to over-work the blood-flow and re-pressure the bag. Not common, but not complicated. Just needs time. Good to see he and Lever back out there.

Thanks Webbs!!! High ankle sprain... interesting, I thought they might have been using a different term previously. I did see an article, was from 2020 that noted that season had a very high number of this injury, might have been an outlier season. It does note it is usually 3-4 per season on ave https://www.afl.com.au/news/463519/injuries-on-the-rise-why-afl-footballers-are-running-the-gauntlet

Funny enough as a 17yr old I had a syndesmosis, I'd never heard of it, was a funny popping feeling in the lower leg and just not being able to get any drive out of it, was a decent recovery time too.

At first I was tending to agree re Tmac but quiet reflection suggests all our forwards struggled to really get into the game. I dont think you could say either BBB or Fritta were clunking them and our smalls were off as well(ANB excepted). Cossie was really down in the first half but really worked himself back into it. A long way of saying either they were all off or we were worked over by GC on strategy. That is not fixed by dropping Tmac who may be needed down back.

For the one hundredth time, it's nothing to do with one game and it's got all to do with his form since the finals to now.

Transparency equals intelligence for opposing teams. I'd rather keep them guessing personally, even if it only generates the slightest of strategic advantage. 

Some of the calls for Spargo to be dropped (and the question marks on Pickett the week before) by a select few seem to ignore the critical function our small forwards play when we don’t have the ball. The triumvirate of Spargs, Kozzie and ANB is the envy of the rest of the comp. They set the tone and positioning of our forward press. They are absolute gut runners, elite pressure players and epitomise MFC’s team-first mantra. I liken them to one organism, such is their understanding - they are inseparable. Spargo also happens to be one of our ‘stickiest’ tacklers and best inside 50 ball users. He only needs a handful of touches for maximum impact.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Bedford. He’s shown a bit and got himself bloody fit but he’s not up to Charlie’s level yet.
