Who comes in and who comes out for our match on Friday night against the Bombers?

I'll start ...

In : Lever

Out : Hunt

Out: Hunt, Bedford
In: Lever, Hibberd

Sub: Jordon

Hibberd is a very good matchup for Stringer, who is Essendon's only good player.

If no Hibberd, then a straight Lever/Hunt swap.

It doesn’t sound like Lever is coming back anytime soon.

If Hibbo is ok to go then he comes in for Hunt.
We all know Goodwin won’t make more than one unforced change so I won’t even bother with anymore than that, although Tmac is on thin ice. His form since mid way through last year has been very ordinary.

Hunts disposal was dreadful tonite so him out and laver in.

Who replaces Hunt will depend on who is available.

And not sure of any injury updates tonight - Rivers was said to be hobbling a bit again.

I guess Tom McD gets to stay largely because of his adaptability, though were Weed to have a really good game tomorrow it could be tempting to give him a run.

Wouldn't be too harsh on TMac, wasn't really the night for him to dominate.

Some mail around suggests Lever won't be fit for a while.

If Hibberd's fit I'd bring him in for Hunt who IMO struggled. Smith played poorly IMO but doesn't go after one bad game.

Without any injuries, I doubt we'll see more than one change tbh.

I thought Smith was really good. Defended really well. Was composed with ball in hand. Nothing wrong with him game.

Really wish the club was honest re: Lever. If it’s gonna be a month just tell us.

We really miss Petty!

What makes you say that?

Thought Smith played pretty well at the ground. Disappointed in TMac, especially first half. Tried harder in in the second, but early seemed to be led to the ball and intensity seemed low. And I am a TMac fan.

Sexton had three touches. Smith was great.

I probably worded it a bit strongly: I thought Smith was OK defensively but poor with the ball, had four clangers I think and I recall two really loose kicks which led to turnovers.

Was at the ground. Haven’t been a Smith fan but he played well with many excellent spoils, good rebound and repeat efforts. He holds his place without doubt!

Rumors circulating its a more serious injury than the club was letting on.
March is a fools game. September is when the men come to play. We won’t risk one of our most important players in round 3.

No changes unless some of our injured premiership defenders are fit to play

Ah bugger. I did worry about that when I heard Goody talking about the replacement defenders having to hold up for 4 or 5 weeks.

Thanks mate.

Maybe just Bedford in the starting line up for Hunt. If Rivers still has a niggle, let's try and give Hibberd, Lever as much time as possible.

Yeah I would say we would be lucky to see Lever or Petty before round 7.

Opportunities for others - any idea of Lever’s injury?

Dunstan in. Hunt out.

Hopeful that Lever will be back. But only if 100% fit. Same with Hibberd and Petty.

Too early for me to make any other suggestions on who could come in until after the Casey Demons VFL match.

Jayden Hunt was poor with his decision making and his disposal at times against the Gold Coast Suns. But I think he should be playing on the half forward line to utilise his speed rather than as a defender. But with our injuries we must make do with what cattle we have available.

All I do know is that the Melbourne Demons players should get plenty of rest. They looked totally exhausted at 3/4 time.

I would only have one main training session either Tuesday or Wednesday this coming week. Nevertheless, I will put my faith in Selwyn Griffith to know what is best to manage the players with a short turnaround to playing again next Friday night.

Going back to last year Tom's now up to about 8 ordinary games in a row.

I wish we had a decent medium sized forward to provide extra pressure and some marking, but given we don't should we just give Bedford a run in the starting line up and maybe use Tom as sub.

Really disappointed in Hunt's disposal, he gets dropped if Hibbo is fit. Can't remember a worse game from Langdon - not sure why they didn't swap him over to the other side of the ground at quarter time, given the Suns mainly used the side he wasn't on and Jordon was not doing so well as wing on that side - particularly in the first half.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
