To give someone credit to do their job is my problem. Why do you get ‘credit’ for that??

Makes sense thanks. But the current 'boys club ' commentary rarely behaves in this fashion which is why the bt gf approach stood out for me.

I think Daisy is amazing, but know a couple of people that can't stand her in commentary.

When I press them as to why, all it really boils down to is that they don't like hearing a female voice commentating a male sport.

It doesn't matter to them what she says or how good she is as they cant get past the voice.

🙄

I'd take Daisy and her  opinion even over Derm and Carey. Why..... she makes sense.

If someone does  their job well they deserve credit. It makes them feel good and enhances the work situation.

Would not like to work under you if you are boss and don't  complement your staff on a job well done.

BT is a buffoon and believes he knows more than others about footy. He also suffers from a consistent case of inaccuracy.  Couldn't even get the years gap right after the Dogs 2016 Premiership win.
BT has mellowed since working on Friday Night with Bruce McAvaney about 5 years ago. But he still is conceited and hard work in the box with others.

Brayshaw and BT was the worst GF Ch 7 commentary ever and Daisy rescued it with Hodgee. Abbey is also very ordinary.

Hope they recruit others but dear they will stick with the same old group.

Dunno, I quite like Hodge. Bit rough around the edges but honest and direct.

Hodgy was genuinely excited about our G.F win last year!

Great news! According to The Age, “Eddie McGuire steps away from calling footy”.

What a wonderful day. BT… You’re next.

Fair enough. It was always going to be hard for Eddie to admit that the Queens Birthday match this year would be Collingwood’s Grand Final.

A great pick-up.

But to be fair I do appreciate that Eddie gave this game as a home game for a number of years to give us a leg up in the dark days.

But as a financial powerhouse now, its good to give back this year to the struggling Pies and give their players some 'finals-like' experience.

Naturally in the Call Daisy will be giving her insights on just what casued the Pies implosion on the day.

Finally achieved his dream of watching the old enemy win a flag. What else could he accomplish?

I wonder why? Is Eddie distancing himself from Fox altogether? Could this mean that Nine will be making a play for the TV rights when they next become available and Eddie will be part of the team preparing the bid?

cos news weren't prepared to keep paying him over $1m a year while he took 6 weeks holiday in the middle of the football season

I always look forward to the commentary of isha guha and Lisa stelaker in the cricket. Always have an insightful comment on the play.

People who don't like daisy have not listened to her and bucks on SEN.

Daisy has a great tactical brain and must be a great communicator.

She would be an asset to any organisation in the leadership and development space. I was surprised at how great a thinker and communicator that Bucks was after hearing him regularly on SEN

Yes, @defuture15, Lisa Sthalekar speaks well, makes insightful comments, and was a successful all rounder in her playing day.  And Daisy is awesome in so many ways.  Don’t understand the negativity.

Interesting article in today's The Guardian complimenting (yes, praising) Channel 7 for recognising the past limitations in its commentary teams and style and how it has recruited some new talent to refresh their product. I hope Jason Bennett, Alistair Nicholson and Daisy Pearce continue to be regular commentators and not just occasional fillers-in.

I clicked on an AFL article on Daisy this week on fb and made the mistake of reading the comments underneath and they were all men complaining about how they’re sick of her screechy voice when commenting and how they’re sick of AFLW always being about her so they hope the Dees get smashed this week. Sad people.

Daisy - articulate, thoughtful, intelligent & insightful.

BT - loud, excitable & inaccurate!

The AFL Supporters Survey released today, and hightlighted on The Age back page, talks about, among other things,  fans fed up with the boys club commentary ruining the watching spectacle on tele.

Who'd have thought?

But the good news is Ch 7 is allocating this season Daisy Peace to the Friday night commentary team for special comments, moving Wayne Carey to Saturday.

How good is that, but a good call by 7 after Daisy's suberb comments contribution on the GF. At times it was emabarrassingly good. Well done to 7 on that.

She even had BT saying during the GF's 3rd quarter "....Daise , can you explain just what's  happened...?"  So she did.

Priceless.

At one stage when I tired of re watching " bang bang bang....bang!" I went through the game to listen to BT talking from the cheat sheet he must bring to games to try and match to what he thinks is happening and the waited for Daisy to gently correct him a little later so as not to embarrass him too much more than he does to himself.

Actually it was only 3 or 4 times but it was great fun and highlights how useless BT is.

She's a lot more careful working with Hodge

Unfortunately Eddie doesn't need the work, but BT does...he can't do anything else so he won't walk away they would have to sack him.....please

Doesn't he own a farm as his "day job"?

I dont imagine farms for ex football players are usually about making a living wage.

They do it just  because that's what their mates all do...and good luck to them I say.

I don't criticise BT for being on a good wicket. It's just that he's a terrible caller and surely someone/anyone else could do better.

They all have a use by date ,we naturally get tired of them; it's just he never should have had a start date

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
