My opinion is heโ€™s waiting to see what Jackson does. He knows there will be plenty of salary cap left on the table if Jackson goes and he wants a nice fat chunk of it.ย

This is all BS. The talk that Brayshaw doesnt know what he wants is ludicrous. He knows exactly what he wants as he would have advised his management on the parameters of what he would find acceptable.

In most cases that primary factor is $$$ and years or total contract value. Everything else is secondary unless of course you are from WA.ย

The interview this morning was 1 of 2 things. 1 he is signed up and was throwing off the media to release the news via his podcast. It sounds cheesy, but this is exactly what i would expect him to do. Or 2. he is trying to squeeze every last dollar out of MFC now that he probably knows LJ is gone and there is money to go around.ย

The challenge for MFC is having enough $$$ to attract talent into the club to fill the LJ void plus for anyone coming out of contract next year. So presumably they would incrementally up the offer until a middle point is reached. It would take a monumental f.up for Brayshaw to walk. He has previously said, he loves the club, loves his team mates etc. So the ball is squarely in MFC's court to close it.ย

The whole announcing that you have re-signed on a podcast is seriously the most laughable thing I've seen written. How people have fallen for this is truly amazing.

When a player signs a new contract, a club has to draft up a statement of confirmation. This statement is then released via club media having ticked off for approval from club stakeholders before release.

The statement is also released via email to members, stakeholders and sponsors. This is called being professional.ย

Announcing a major resigning on a podcast that's pre recorded is the complete opposite to go about it.

ย

Surely we can find the money for the guy. We can pay him a bit less than heโ€™d get elsewhere, but how much is it worth getting to play the sport you love with your mates? And surely money wonโ€™t ever be an issue for the man. Thereโ€™d be no problem finding him a media gig of some sort.ย

That said, he could still do it on his Podcast if he wanted to.

Itโ€™s a new era of players DD. Could be part of the resigning clause. How many people will be dialling into the podcast over the coming weeks in anticipation? Sponsors would be ย happy for sure.ย

It sounds silly to you and I but I wouldnโ€™t put it past them.ย

I agree, but it's human nature.

The reality is, when you have two big players thinking about leaving, it becomes a distraction.

ย

More so for other team mates but just my view.

Must be very unsettling (for some) this late in the season.ย  Human nature says that at least some would be asking what the hec is taking so long given we are the reigning premiers and Gus & LJ have had all season to ponder/discuss with suitors etc.

LJ is def gone if the mail and SG's reaction on SEN is anything to go by.ย

As for Gus, who knows.ย  If i was betting on him staying or going i would say he's not over the line yet but maybe a 60/40 proposition at the minute in our favour.

ย

Can anyone confirm that Gusโ€™ manager is also Jacksonโ€™s? Iโ€™ve heard it mentioned but just wanted to see if it was a fact. Cheers.

Both managed by TLA.

Took the words from my mouth DD. I might be old school but I find it ridiculous that you would use a podcast like theirs as a forum to announce something so important.ย

Maybe it's a new climate and things are going this way with retirements being announced over Twitter and all that crap but I'd like to think there is still some professionalism in the way things like this get done.ย

What's the difference if Gus announces it on his podcast, instead of it being a tweet from Ralph, or McClure, or a breaking news flash from HS or the Age?

I thought he was pretty positive. He stated the really enjoys playing off the half back flank, loves the playing group. Itโ€™s the biggest decision in his playing career and he just wants to make sure heโ€™s covering all bases before he commits.ย

No I heard it live and wasnโ€™t concerned.

He was honest about himself, what he has to weigh up for this decision and also open and honest about where the team is currently at and where we need to get to in terms of being in a position to challenge this year

It is the millennial way.

The Gus and Gawny podcast is on the MFC website and is endorsed by the club, and Gibson who is employed by the club hosts it (or at least he did when he hosted the Bedford segment). So I think it would be fair enough to announce a potential re-signing on that forum.

I'd even be happy if Andy broke the news on Demonland. Just sign GUS!

Probably no difference Redleg, none at all and I'm just being a stick in the mud.

Yeah ah well.

I should just get around it, for instance if youโ€™re buying a house how about having the cool and hip real estate agent send you the bank details for the deposit over Facebook messenger! People feel really safe handing over hundreds of thousands of dollars that way and that old method with details in a letter on company letterhead is so antiquated.

Yeah that's not so bad!

If we can get an assurance from the AFL that the compo would be end of the first round then Iโ€™m more than happy to let Gus go. In fact Iโ€™d say it would be the prudent move.

Weโ€™ve got 3 defenders on A grade coin, plus Petty.

Weโ€™ve got a ruck and mids on top line money, plus Viney and Langdon.

We have to use money and picks to lure key forwards/high impact forward half players. Jackson (staying or) going is part of that, but more canโ€™t hurt.

Heโ€™s doing a lot of good things this year but heโ€™s still at best our 5th most important defender and thereโ€™s no point breaking the pay scale for that position. Not when Bowey and Rivers are premiership players, Hunt is capable and defensive depth can be found in the draft.ย

Heโ€™s not going to get any faster or become a good kick. Those flaws arenโ€™t going away. We should offer him a deal in line with his role in the side and be ok if other teams are willing to go way beyond that.

We could use the compo pick to draft a mid we'll actually play in the middle

Iโ€™m sure if we drafted one with some speed off the mark and accountability to complement Tracc and Oliver, like say a Sparrow or Harmes we probably wouldย

Brayshaw has more talent than both combinedย

Not impossible that all those things have been ticked off and there could be a simultaneous announcement on a podcast and elsewhere.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... itโ€™s time to discuss this weekโ€™s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliverโ€™s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line โ€ฆ Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
