Sorry Jrmac, I cant help you...I hope so.

I'm posting as my mate told me last week that we had won 19 of our three quarters last season which is absolutely awesome.

I wish I knew when we were 19 points down.

Now the dust has cleared, It really was daylight between us and other clubs. God help em if we get even better.

season opener is still 2 months away, so a bit of water to go under the bridge just yet...

I understood jnrmac's post to mean that none of our Premiership team have retired or been traded.

Why would you move when you have the realistic mouthwatering prospect of more flags ? With JT and his teams’ brilliant recruiting, and  our talented next gen players waiting in the wings for their chance, I believe our club has been set up for sustained success over many years a la Geelong. In my long lifetime of supporting my beloved Dees I have never seen our list bat as deep as they do right now. We are a strong club and will only get stronger. 65000+ members for 2022 is very achieveable.

I think a Dees v Tigers GF isn't that unlikely. I mean, which other matchups are more betting odds likely at this stage aside from maybe v WB or v Port? I can honestly see all of our competition from last year falling away, such was the deflating nature of how ALL of them exited. Leaving the door ajar for Sydney and a few others from lower down to pop up. I can see the Tigers with one last scrap, knocking them all off with their superior pressure and high footy iq game... and getting into the Big Dance. They had a lot of injuries last year, so they are still a top 4 team at their fittest imo.

Even the WB with their talent, could start the season terribly and never quite catchup. We've seen it happen to them before.

Melbourne v Richmond, what a fitting GF it would be. System v System, it's a juicy matchup, better than last year. And the Best spectacle atmosphere wise we might ever witness. Bring it on!

No that’s not right although it’s surprisingly rare.  I’m pretty sure Hawthorn in 2014 and Richmond in 2017 kept all the premiership starting team on their list. Brisbane in 2001 also. So good omens for us.

But it is correct that the same team who played on the day have never played together again.  

I think what was said that if the same 23 players play in the first match it will be the first time it has happened or the same 23 play in the replay in the next season?

As far as I'm aware no premiership 18/20/22/23 has ever played together again. Players may have been on the list but there were always changes to the matchday squad which meant the team that played in the flag never took the field intact again.

I'm a 40 year plus supporter who suffered through the horrible 70's 80's .......yeah, until now, and thought I was a broken, negative viewer, but this list and its MFC support staff have convinced me that we are about to enjoy the success that only a power club can bring.

We have been set up brilliantly by our recruiters and developed perfectly by our coaches. It's been said that when the Dees win flags, it is in multiples, and I see absolutely zero reason to doubt that this will be the case with our current list, provided the hunger remains as consistent as our injury list.

I'm looking forward to a few more flags before this bunch begins to disband.

You have ignored the fact that Richmond lost nearly all the games that Martin missed at the end if the Year say 8 out of 10.

Yes Martin was not at his best in 2021 but my point is that The Tigers  were lost without him much more than earlier in the year.

Feast or famine and it's time to feast

Only 57 days to go folks.

In all the discussion here and in the media, not enough attention is given to teams outside last year's final eight as premiership contenders in 2022. I don't have a specific team in mind, but given that's what we did last year, why not also consider them? For example, while I don't think they have the team to mount such a challenge, what about St Kilda? Or Fremantle?

For the record, I think Richmond won't make the eight this year. I believe their era has come to an end. And it's been a great era for them.

Fremantle is a possibility. They should beat WCE twice which is always a help in the Derby cities.

Mind you I think they are most likely a 6th ranked team and would need a stunning finals series a la Bulldogs 2016

It's hard to quantify I guess.

Back to back flags are rare but the desire to play a granny on our home turf will come in to play. Add the fact of so many players starting  to peak will be a factor in our favor as well as some more savvy  recruiting. I really believe this team not only loved playing, all smiles and laughter coming down the concourse...they also loved winning. 

Mentally tough teams can do it and I really think we will see that we are one....as demonstrated by all the times we came back from lagging behind last year.

It's been done six times in the last 23 years. It's almost negligent not to do it.

For the record, I think Richmond won't make the eight this year. I believe their era has come to an end. And it's been a great era for them.    

Carlton are a curious watch (Yeah yeah, I know, they are talked up every year) But this year we will find out: Voss a competent coach? Can he make a radical impact and achieve a big first year push up the ladder? How will they look with Cerra in with Walsh & Cripps. McKay & finally a fit Curnow up forward. They should be pushing into 6-8 range and further if others drop down. They could be a dangerous matchup with a big crowd behind them in a final at the G. Defence will be their weakness, so it will be interesting to see how they change in that department over the next 2/3 years.

we should not forget that in round 23, Geelong kicked eight goals straight against us. In the grand final, the dogs went from 2 goals down to 3 goals up. During the season, there were many games where teams got a short run-on against us. The commentators generally thought we were vulnerable against a ground ball attack.

 

There is no doubt that opposition coaches will be studying those passages in games intently, trying to find out how we were vulnerable, and to replicate and intensify it. We need to work out what went wrong, and remedy it. 
 

Then we can go back to back and more.

The Round 23 Geelong game was as outlandish a period of Geelong dominance as you'll ever see. What they did simply wasn't sustainable (that game, and the PF, proved it). Everything went their way, in a period of quite literal perfection. I put very, very little stock in that run. If sides want to try to repeat it, good luck to them.

As to the Dogs, yes, they were on top for a fair part of the GF through the second and third quarters. The way they played that game, and Round 19 when they beat us, is far more indicative of how I expect opponents to approach us in 2022.

But it has to be remembered that the Dogs are the only side to bat deeper than us in the middle. No other side is as stacked in that part of the ground as they are, not to mention with a top 5 player (Bontempelli) in there to boot.

Just watching the Round 19 clash at present.

Two things stood out to me.

In the first half our forward play lacked cohesion and we missed 3-4 very gettable goals. (BBB was responsible for two of those.)

Dogs scored around three goals "out the back".

In addition the jury is still out on whether you tag Daniels.

The good thing is that they rarely if ever dominated us even if they outscored us.
