As far as I'm concerned it's all laid to rest. No longer do I have to dig up Round 22 in 1987 or 'Billy' Bennett kicking six in a last quarter comeback at Windy Hill as my most memorable highlights over the last 30+ years. That, along with all our worst losses belong to an era that can fade gracefully into sepia tones. 

Geelong would happily trade that game for the two finals where we pantsed them so let them reminisce about the 186.

No.  He was emergency for the firsts and didn't play in either game.  He sat in the stand.  He touches on this in his Captain's diary.

Without wishing to be a pedant.  For accuracy, we were behind by 44 points at approx. the 19 minute mark of the third quarter and were behind by 32 points at 3/4 time.

Max can play a blinder 4 quarters next time, not just one 🏆💙❤️

For as long as Cameron Schwab is alive it will be hard to forget 186. Even now.

Wanting to introduce American-style performance contracts had a massive impact on the entire playing group. Every player in the club made their feelings known at Geelong. Bailey was the fall guy but Schwab should have resigned.

Stynes was also too reliant on Schwab.

Whole episode was a shambles.

We arrived back from a weeks holiday in Sunny Mildura yesterday and we sat down last night after unpacking and re- watched that magical 40 minutes of footy. How good were we, will we ever tire of this football perfection.💕❤️💙

Every bit of pain and suffering is now dead and buried, 6 foot deep in the ground in Western Australia.

In many ways this closes a chapter in my life. I can finally move on.

2018 being the game when Zac Tuohy kicked a goal after the siren and GFC and MFC supporters picked fights with each other all night.

Roosy's last game was a picnic compared to the horrid ending to the 2018 night.

Guthrie and Close should've received an invite to the MFC celebration day as without their kind gestures I'm not sure whether we would've won a flag from outside the top 2.

The 150 final series replaced 186. Time to move on for good

186 doesn't bother me anymore, but it's a (disturbingly) important part of what made 2021 so special.

Sure, the Cattery massacre was 11 years ago, but it set us back so far culturally that we can't forget it happened. To win a flag within a decade of that unspeakable horror is pretty darn impressive IMO. 

If we keep getting sent down to that cesspool to play games, i shall always want to beat those arrogant bastards 

186 is a distant memory now. But we should never completely forget, so that it is NEVER allowed to happen again. 
 

The MFC must aim to play Finals every year.

At the suggestion of a comment on here I read the cats Bigfooty GF feed.

One common theme was that during the Dees display cats fans were saying just how far off the pace they now are.

And how come the dees make 2 prelims and 1 GF for 1 flag , whilst the cats have made 7 prelims for zip since 2021. Envy abounded on the site with more than a few comments on recruiting and coaching.

As far as bitterness, feelings of shame and internal recriminations go, I'd say unequivocally yes.

As soon as the Gaz Man handed the cup over to Maxy and Goody, I fully embraced him again. Hell, I've nearly forgiven CS in that I kind of just roll my eyes at mentions of him and the cringe that permeated his era, rather than being enveloped with an overwhelming urge to HULK SMASH!

That said, as a cautionary tale, it shouldn't be laid totally to rest. 

We now know what it takes to win a flag. We should never let hubris blind us to what it  takes to tear a place to pieces.

Dean Bailey's farewell press conference was the lowest ebb we have plumbed, both in terms of football results and organizational integrity and honor, in my 32 years of following the club.

We need to embrace the legacy of the bad old days like a pre-2008 Hawthorn owned their past in that we look at it as something that needs to be avoided at all costs.
