I know it's a minor point, but Channel 7 have used an inappropriate photo to go with this story. It was their decision to use a photo and they should have used one with Simpson not smiling. As if he's happy with the situation.

Aging team, takes the pressure off, easier to slide to the bottom 4 of the ladder and rebuild. I'm not sure that's the wrong photo.

There is one person to blame here and that is their Premier. Regardless of which party he’s with had he opened earlier their footy teams wouldn’t be suffering.

1000%

Their premier is a complete moron and has proven what a waste of time it was to delay reopening the borders for the third time. It did absolutely nothing to delay Covid and Omicron. Should have opened up when they reached 90% double vaccinated as per original plan.
Could have been over their wave in time for the footy season instead of having restrictions that other states have given up on months ago.

He must be doing something right. They've had 50 deaths, whereas those of us in the eastern states have had about 5000.

looks like covid (or contact) sidelines BBB

edit: was close contact

Yep, and the whining and constant moaning about McGowan is born out of petty jealousy & envy in my view. It's as if these types wanted WA to share our lockdowns, mask wearing and over run hospitals.

And every State closed their borders when it suited as well.  So we can do it but not WA?  Hypocrisy, contradiction & an inconsistent argument often reigns supreme when it comes to these matters

NZ stopped nearly all international flights for a decent period of time ... didn't see anyone complaining about their stance either

Nothing to do with left or right wing politics either.  Taken on face value he managed to keep covid out of his State and thus saved hundreds of lives. Perhaps 1000's of lives were saved. Kudos to the bloke

Landslide victory resulted as well (53 seats to 4) so the people of WA love the bloke

I do not lean left or right with politics so McGowan could be the leader of the Liberal party and it wouldn't change my opinion

And let's not forget that the same people who stand behind McGowan also got behind our team in the finals.  They acted like a normal Demons crowd (which was stunning)

And the timing of their inevitable opening up coincided with Omicron being the dominant variant.  So less deaths and less ICU patients than the Delta variant (?)

There's the odd anti-vaxxer who has taken a different stance over there but they are part of a small minority group

Covid is a cruel mistress. She had me in a vicelike grip. She unleashed a relentless attack; a four-day Covid-induced brain fog of the highest order. Hands down the worst part of this ordeal? I had to 86 Demonland at a time when I most needed to be with the DL fam. Thus:

🦠   iso    Demonland   =   😢

I make no secret of how much DL means to me (in short, EVERYTHING). But I had to bail when it became nothing more than a painful reminder of the cruel and heartless actions of another poster. Even logging on to use PM (there are some absolutely beautiful ppl here 💕) was extremely difficult. Seemed the only way to get over being so hurt was to ditch this site altogether. Outta site, outta mind. (See what I did there? 😁)

Then last Thursday for the first time since joining DL a year ago, I watched the Dees match… alone. (I’d forgotten how depressing that was.) I thought surely there’s something I can do about this.

So I asked myself… WWZD (What Would Zelenskyy Do)? 🤔 Roll over and let the Bad Guy win? Not a chance!

So I picked m’self up, dusted m’self off, put m’ big girl pants on and now I’m ready to take on the world! At least, I will when I’m sufficiently well enough to drag my sorry-a$$ off the couch. 😆

Then for good measure I sent this out to the Universe…

Thanks Luci (for everything).
You know, this is the first footy forum I’ve ever been a part of (as if you can’t tell 😁). I’ve been on heaps of fan forums, mainly for bands/singers etc. I’ve never lasted longer than a few months since they can be fairly toxic and the mods are useless (unlike our mods 🙂) but I’ve never had to leave any of them because of being hurt by someone. And I’m not talking The Wiggles, I’m talking The Stranglers, for example. I never dreamt DL would be the place wherein I’d end up being made to feel so bad. Hence, my guard was down.
Anyways, that’s totes off-topic.
Back on topic: I bought a ticket for our Anzac-eve match, first time I’ve done so without your help. Ima PM you if that’s ok to make sure I’ve done it right. 👍🏽

This snippet made me smile, because the game was depressing to watch - even with company.

WCW, Good to have you back and obviously over the brain fog.

You know I'm sure there are some D'Landers who know people who know other people who could fix your problem very quickly🤫

Otherwise the ignore button is always there🤗

No More Heroes is probably my favourite album, closely followed by Rattus Norvegicus. And always had a soft spot for Aural Sculpture.
JJ Burnel has one of the punchiest, best bass sounds in rock n roll I reckon.

Rattus Norvegicus equal best along with The Raven, for mine. Same soft spot for Aural Sculpture 🙂

Saw them live only once. Can’t remember what year (early 80’s) nor the venue (maybe Festival Hall) but will never, ever forget the experience. EVER  🤯

No need for that. I’ve already got ‘Hitmen R Us’ on speed dial. 😎

Seriously though, thank you for the well-intentioned (but highly illegal) sentiment. 😁
As for the ignore button: sadly it can’t erase what has already happened. But if you happen to know of anyone who owns a fully-operational DeLorean…

Ok WCW, we know you're into cryptic crosswords, and I think I've worked it out.

The Stranglers - Golden Brown - Gold and Brown - Hawthorn. There is a Hawthorn supporter in our midst who tried to get you over to the dark side.

Easy there, Spartacus. I said ‘heartless’ not ‘heinous’ 😳
Forcing someone to go down the Hawthorn path against their will is an indictable offence which carries a penalty of 25 to life. Well, it doesn’t. But it should.

The Sir Doug Nicholls Round kicks off in Darwin with a Top 4 clash between the Suns and the Hawks. On Friday night the Swans will be seeking to rebound from a challenging start to the season, while the Blues have the Top 8 in their sights after their sluggish start. Saturdays matches kick off with a blockbuster between the Collingwood and Kuwarna with the Magpies looking to maintain their strong form and the Crows aiming to make a statement on the road. The Power face a difficult task to revive their season against a resilient Cats side looking to make amends for their narrow loss last week. The Giants aim to reinforce their top-eight status, while the Dockers will be looking to break the travel hoodoo. The sole Saturday game is a critical matchup for both teams, as the Bulldogs strive to cemet their spot in the top six and the Bombers desperately want break into the 8. Sundays start with a bottom 3 clash between the Tigers and Kangaroos with both teams wanting to avoid the being in wooden spoon contention. The Round concludes with the Eagles still searching for their first win of the season, while the Saints look to keep their finals hopes alive with a crucial away victory. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.
